Frequently Asked Questions
Curious about how the pet portrait process works? This FAQ covers everything you need to know to get started. If you don’t see your question here, feel free to reach out via email: [email protected]!
Should I commission a physical painting or a digital painting? That all depends on what your goals are! Are you looking to make stickers, greeting cards, or posters out of your commissioned artwork? If so, I’d recommend a digital painting. Are you looking to display something beautiful or give a gift to someone special? If so, I’d go with a physical painting. Of course, in the end, it’s up to you. Both options have pros and cons - you can’t go wrong with either!
What size canvases do you paint on? The standard canvas sizes I currently have prepared are 6x6, 8x10, and 11x14, but… It’s really up to you! I’m comfortable painting on almost all canvas sizes from 5x5 inches and up.
How do you price your commissions? Commissions are priced based on medium, complexity of the subject, the number of subjects (pets) in one painting, and type of commission (physical or digital). Digital commissions begin at a base price of $75 for simple head/face portraits. For a general idea of physical commission costs: 5x5, 6x6, and 7x7 all begin at a base price of $85. 8x10 begins at a base price of $150. 11x14 begins at a base price of $200. Please inquire for larger sizes! *Please note, the above prices reflect estimates for water color and acrylic paintings. Oil paintings begin at a base price of $300 due to the time and expensive nature of oil paints!
What mediums do you work in? For digital portraits, I illustrate using my iPad and trusty Apple Pencil. For physical portraits, I’ve worked with water color, acrylics, and oil. *Oil paintings come with a surcharge to account for the increased expense, drying time, and varnishing process.
Can you create art in different artistic styles? I can and do! I love illustrating cartoons and am happy to accommodate your vision - just give me some references and samples to work with, and I’ll see what I can do!
Do you paint people? I do! If you’re interested in a human portrait, reach out to me, and I may take certain commissions on a case by case basis, or add you to the waitlist.
