A Holiday of Inquiry

So "Veterans Day" is over. On that one designated day, I ask... What did you learn? What did your children learn? How did you give back in service as those who sacrificed their lives did? Did you capitalize on the marketed attempt on this new but old booming commodified culture? Did you buy the tshirt, the arm band, attend the concert, smoke the joint in respect to the cause? Did you worship at memorials and idolize figures or did you make an effort outside this designated day to visit and interact with a veteran who may need to be engaged? Did you sit down with a veteran for that yearly dedicated meal and learn about his or her own narrative? Do you know what a veteran is? Do you know what one looks like outside the predetermined realm of aesthetics of the media? What did you learn? I don't celebrate Veterans Day because Veterans Day is everyday for me.
