Monday we discussed themes for two events next year: Gender Fusions and the Gay Pride Parade float. For Gender Fusions, we discussed that we wanted the theme to be G.S.I.: Gay Scene Investigation. (so hilarious) Some ideas that were thrown out there were having a mugshot photo station, chalk outlines of our guests, mocktails served in test tubes, customized caution tape, a dance number in lab coats and glitter bombs (possibly to the song "Criminal" by Britney Spears) --- that was for you Becca. haha For the parade, we discussed having a walking float next summer. The theme is still up in the air. Some of the ideas being Disney, superhero, animal, and Nickelodeon. Personally, I think it would be bad ass if we did Christmas in June...we could dress as elves and Santa and reindeer. It would be festive and fun and our tagline could be "When you're gay, every day's a holiday!" haha But keep brainstorming! =D
Don't forget to wear red on Thursday for World AIDS day! If you forget, posters should be located around the campus buildings. Remember to tell your friends to wear red as well!!!

Friday Nov 18
Today was the meeting for Trans* Remembrance day (which is Sunday, November 20th). Transgender men and women all harrassed, bullied, and even murdered everyday. November 20th is the day to remember all those who were taken in this conquest for equality.
We had 2 quest speakers, both Common Ground members, Allen and Cam. They talked about the process of discovery and the process of becoming comfortable with yourself as a transman or woman. They both gave their stories and then the floor was opened up to ask questions, and to recognize others in the trans* community.
After the discussion we all cuddled around on beanbags and watched an episode from the Sundance Channel's series Trans Generation which focused on 2 FTM and 2 MTF transgender college students. It was very interesting and I recommend finding it online. (shhh...don't tell)
After we watched the episode we split up and worked our way down to the sculpture garden for a vigil in remembrance of those whose lives were lost. We attempted to light candles, read out names of those affected, and had a moment of silence before ending with a group hug. It was all very uplifting (or that could have been the huge gust of wind blowing us off our feet).
The most important thing to do if someone who know comes to you whether it be to come out or to discuss any situation in their life just "remain open minded and listen", it's the best thing you can do.
Monday's meeting we will be discussing Gender Fusion and the float idea for the Pride Parade.
