Being an entrepreneur is not an easy thing to do. There is a long way before getting called a successful entrepreneur. Yet because of their burning passion, commitment, and risks that they’ve taken, they were able to withstand the obstacles facing them. So, I present to you, five common character traits to successful entrepreneurs.
1. Stubbornness to pursue a passion.
Bill Gates is the perfect idea of being stubborn to pursue his passion. Since he was a boy, Gates had been passionate about computers. He would spend so much time in the computer lab that he was reprimanded by teachers. As mentioned, Gates spent a similar amount of time on personal computers while attending Harvard. Rather than finish his degree in prelaw at Harvard, he stubbornly pursued his passion until it became a success.
2. They know their strengths and weaknesses.
Successful entrepreneurs must understand well their strengths and weaknesses. And because of that, they are comfortable and confident in their set of skills and talents. The "Steves" for example. Without Steve Wozniak, Steve Jobs wouldn't have had a computer to sell. And, without Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak may have never sold the Apple 1. Both men complemented each other's strengths and made up for their weaknesses.
3. Risk-takers and Decisive.
You won't reach the heights of success that your business might be capable of unless you take risks and are decisive with your choices. Mark Pincus, the founder of a social gaming company known as Zynga, took a bold risk early in his career by walking away from a great funding source for the first company he started because the investor would have been able to choose the CEO. While this was a significant risk to take since he only had a limited amount of funds left, it eventually paid off as he was able to gain startup funding for Zynga.
4. Flexibility
Being flexible is one of the characteristics that are practically essential for successful entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurs like Fred Smith of FedEx and Henry Ford failed many times in their early careers but were flexible enough to adapt and eventually find success. The startup process is all about learning from your mistakes, iterating, and making something better. The important thing is to be willing to learn and grow as a person and company.
5. Creativity
This character trait can help you see a possible solution to a problem that others around you didn't even know existed. While creativity is important for your product if you want it to attract the attention of your core audience, it's also very beneficial for marketing. However, creative marketing strategies could help you set your brand apart from more recognized ones in the industry. Marc Benioff, who was one of the founders of Salesforce, is well known and somewhat notorious for devising creative marketing solutions and gimmicks. For instance, he once set up a fake protest at a conference by Siebel Systems that included everything from chanting to a fake television crew. This gimmick, along with many others by Benioff, brought ample amounts of attention to Salesforce that likely would be impossible to obtain through standard marketing methods.
And that marks the end of the blog. Hope you discover new things and apply them in your daily life. Thank you for reading until this very end.
