Just discovered Lucrecia Dalt and can't stop listening to her albums. They're a beautiful mix of layered, lush sounds glittered with surrealist lyricism.
Lucrecia Dalt - Conversa | [ DL the track over at Dublab. Link HERE ]
I stumbled upon Lucrecia Dalt´s new LP Commotus [ Full album stream HERE ] this morning and have been really impressed. The album has a very odd sound to it, but not off putting or menacing, rather it seams to have an almost foreign quality to it. When I say foreign I do not mean exotic or that this sounds like it is the product of a far away land. Instead I use the term to describe its almost complete dearth of obvious influences and total disconnect to music being made right now. This is music from the inner workings of a great musical mind, a singular voice who is not concerned with the outside world, and therefor is not playing to it.
Sonically the album is very subdued and similar to the way that the low key crop of early folktronica albums released after the turn of the century were. That is not to say this is folktronica, but if I had to draw a liner connection I think that would be the most fitting. But it is not just the sonics that make this album great, what really struck me was feel the album left me with. While I was listening to it a few other albums came to mind : - Juana Molina - Segundo & Un Dia - Nicolas Jaar - Space Is Only Noise - Julianna Barwick - The Magic Place - Herbert - Bodily Functions
These albums all sound [sounded in case of Bodily Functions 10 years on, but I digress...] like they were made by artists who were not paying attention to the popular music of the day and instead were paying attention to their personal voice. This is a tall feat to be sure, but it also is exactly what Lucrecia Dalt has accomplished on Commotus.
Because of these qualities the album does take a bit of getting used to. It feels like it takes a few tracks to really feel the album and get into its groove. You have to let down your guard to be swept away by Commotus and if you do it pays huge dividends. This is an album that deserves to be heard by many ears.
For a limited time you can stream the album in full over at 3Voor12 [Link HERE ] I highly recommend that you do. For more info about the LP head over to the Human Ear Music label site HERE.
