Step 2. Tap to select the item that is lost and out of range.
Step 3. Tap the blue "Mark as Lost" button featured at the bottom of the map and confirm Mark as Lost in the pop-up.
Step 4. On the home screen, the grey moving circle around your lost item indicates that the "Mark as Lost" feature has been selected.
Step 5. Stand by. If you or anyone with the Tile app running comes into range of your Tile, you will receive a push notification and email letting you know the location of your Tile!

We've had a lot of questions about how our community works together to help each other find their stuff. Many people recall the "Mark as Lost" feature from our original video and ask where that is in the app today. So, we wanted to explain it further.
If you read nothing else, read this: the Mark as Lost feature has been automated so you don't need to press or do anything if you lose your Tile. The app will automatically update the location of your Tile if another person in the community happens to be within range.
As we briefly discussed in our video walk through of the app, your Tile's location is always being updated securely and anonymously in the background by other Tile community members who are nearby. So, you no longer need to push the “Mark as Lost” button to see an updated location of your Tile.
Here is how it works. Every Tile out there is sending a "I'm a Tile" signal that can be heard by any iPhone running the Tile app. So, let's say Lewis and Clark both have a Tile. Lewis lost his Tiled keys at a local park. And, it just so happens that Clark walks by the very picnic table where Lewis' keys fell to the ground.
In this case, Clark's phone will anonymously send back the location of Lewis' Tile to the cloud. Our cloud servers then push that location update to only Lewis so that he can see a map of the last known location of his Tile. This is all done invisibly by the app and the community. Clark would have no knowledge that he just helped Lewis find his keys.
As more and more people download the app and join the Tile Community, the range for locating Tiles will rapidly expand. In addition, the most important people to you in the Tile network are your friends, family members and co-workers, because they are in the places you are and go to the same places you go. So if you want the best Tile community for you, encourage your friends to download the app even if they don’t have a Tile yet.
