COCOA ISLAND, MALDIVES

People talk about the Maldives like it's the Princess Grace of islands. An endless barrage of photographs and all this talk about them sinking in less than 10 years shook my butt into gear. The one-bedroom over-water bungalow had the most fabulous view of the light green ocean and was perfect for swimming and snorkeling. It's spacious and decorated barefoot luxury-style with the most amazing private deck and stairs down to the sea, an ideal spot to spend a good consecutive 5-25 days.

The water is mostly shallow around the island and thus warm and great for swimming, more importantly, it is absolutely breathtaking to look at! Endless sparkling green water. And there is fabulous snorkeling at the edge were it drops off into the deeper water. Tons of fish and corals, and bigger fish swimming by (like sharks and these over-sized green fish called Napoleons that supposedly "nuzzle" you if you have good karma). The shallow inlets between the bungalows house numerous newly born sharks and they are beyond cute to watch; it's nothing less than marvelous! And the Shambala products are insanely heavenly! Snatch up as many as you can and use them later to be reminded of your vacation! Oh they are divine!

Go here! Quickly! Before they sink! It's really, really worth it. One caution: if you get bored easily when there is little to do but swim, sun, snorkel, scuba and sip wine, maybe don't go here just yet.
