As announced earlier, Crimlaw TAE has added a new course, “Introduction to German Criminal Law.” This course is taught in Freiburg, Germany and the University of Freiburg. The focus of this course is the basics of German criminal law, which is quite a bit different than American law. For a look at the course and some of the lessons, visit: http://strafrecht-online.org/lehre/ws-2016/introduction-criminal-law/.
Like the original CLTAE, this course is designed to give international students a foundation for what law is and why it is punishes certain behaviors. The biggest differences between German criminal law and American law lies in the death penalty (German, except the state of Hesse, has abolished it and America embraces it) as well as guns (there are very, very few guns lying around Germany and America, well, we love our 2nd Amendment).
However, I am learning along with students about Germany’s “komplex” criminal justice system. Most importantly, wir haben viel Spaß!
