#compassion is everything

being around disabled and elderly family members my whole life has really taught me how much compassion is actually needed in this world. its all fun and games until our own helplessness and mortality come into our foremost view and then we ask "why dont people care"

theres more than just our perspective because one day everything changes and life humbles you quickly. in my social circles ive seen older men go from egotistical maniacs to frail and depressed old men from losing independence to sitting in a home all day just them and their thoughts.

I am upset by the shooting of Cecil the lion because I am upset by all trophy/sport hunting.

I am also upset by the millions of animals slaughtered a year for the purpose of food, entertainment, and clothing.

I am also upset by all of the racist, sexist, LGBT+ phobic, ableist, classist, etc shit that goes on in the world.

This is the world I live in and I’m going to be upset by very imperfect thing in it, and I’m going to do everything in my power to make each thing on this list better.

My solution is not to be less compassionate about the killing of Cecil, but to be more compassionate about every living being on our planet whether we are human or animal. Because compassion begets compassion. (This does not mean compassion towards someone who is oppressing you)
