I was glad my classes are online today bc 1) i got a lot of laundry taken care of 2) nobody heard me verbally assault this woman who said repainting outdoor metal sculptures so they don’t rust and fall apart was “a lot like gentrification”
#OH REALLY ELIZABETH?? you think white people taking over neighborhoods is like a fresh coat of paint??#you think neighborhoods of color should be allowed to rust and fall apart???#this is an art conservation course so there were a lot of people who thought public art should be allowed to deteriorate naturally which is#completely braindead#i was surprised at how pissed i got lol#like how can you not see there’s a HUGE DIFFERENCE between art inside museums and art out on the streets. like in terms of community ownersh#imagine you try to get a neighborhood effort together to fix up a cherishes local landmark but the city is like :3 um actually#the artist wanted this sculpture to turn into a shitty hunk of tetanus :)
