It seems like one of those nights we ditch the whole scene (PT 1)
Zatanna: With a satisfied sigh, Zatanna pushes away the pile of bills she's just paid online. After closing her laptop, and not wanting to consider how awfully poorer she is than half an hour ago, she picks up her phone and taps frantically on her screen.
[Text] To: Greek Goddess
This is like the billionth time I'm telling you to come see my home sweet home.
I just paid the bills. No powercuts will make me des-invite you.
Artemis: [text] To: mistress of magic
Artemis finishes putting her books away. Before grabbing her jacket and telling Wally she's off. Artemis heads out to the nearest zeta and setting coordinates to Brooklyn. Once arriving, she walks the short distance to Zatanna's apartment knocking on the door
Zatanna: She smiles excitedly at her phone before getting up and starting to get her place in conditions. Quickly, she gets tired from doing it the "normal way" and with a few murmured spells has the place spotless and everything in place. Upon hearing the knocking she runs to the door, trying to remember if she has anything really edible at all.
"Artemis!" She beams as she opens the door, engulfing the blonde in a hug.
Artemis: Artemis grins upon seeing her and hugs back laughing lightly.
"Hey Zee!" She says pulling away and stepping into the new apartment. "Gotta say, it's a pretty nice place." Artemis says admiring the "new home sweet home"
Zatanna: "Well, it does now,” she admits sheepishly. “I haven't been really around. I forgot to pay a few bills and they kinda expect you to do that every month," she shrugs. At times like that, she misses living in the Cave, and only with a great deal of willpower she'd convinced herself to come back, after going back to her former place once the power was cut. "Come, I think I have some of Megs' cookies," she offers, leading her friend towards the kitchen.
She rummages through her half-empty cupboard till she finds the Tupper ware holding the delicacies. Placing it on the small kitchen table, Zatanna take a seat after urging Artemis to do the same.
Artemis: Artemis smiles and sits down beside Zatanna, grabbing a cookie. Seeing the bin of cookies made her think the butter sweet: when she and Wally make their final leave, she's not going to see M'gann as often let alone have her cookies. Upon biting into the delightful cookie she couldn't help but blurt out
"Man, I'm gonna miss these..."
Zatanna: Her smile falters a bit, and her brows furrow in confusion. "What do you mean? We could zeta to the Cave and pick up some more... M'gann always makes lots of them."
Artemis: Artemis sighs. She knew this talk was coming eventually and now was as good a time as ever.
"Listen, Zee....Wally and I have decided that we should be headed for retirement. And of course we'll still visit...just not as often," she sighs looking at her friend trying to appear as sad about it as Artemis actually is.
Zatanna: Her smiles vanish from her face, which is contorted in something between annoyance, confusion, and maybe, even pain. "What?" She mouths. Then out of the blue, she bursts out in laughter. "Oh, God, you almost got me there. Good one, Art," she concedes, popping half a cookie into her mouth.
Artemis: Artemis looks at Zatanna's sadly now. The seriousness in her eyes increasing. "Zatanna...I'm serious. We're leaving the team." Artemis says "It's been a hard choice but Wally thinks it’s for the best."
Zatanna: Still, Zatanna stares at her for a few seconds, unbelieving. "But... you love this. Both of you do," she replies, shaking her head slightly. "How can you leave?" She frowns deeply, mulling on how Wally seemed to be the one to blame for this, in her opinion, rushed decision. "And what do you think?"
Artemis: After a pause, she opens her mouth but closes it. "Look, I love it. And I didn't want to go at first. But Wally and I, kind of figured out we have a lot on our plates with college and everything. And I still love it; don't think that's ever going to change..."
Zatanna: Her lips tighten in a firm line as she takes a few deep breaths. She should be happy, this is her friend figuring out her life and putting it together. But she can't, not really, though she's going to try. "There's nothing I can say to make you change your mind? I could compel some of your teachers to be more lenient, or help you with some of your homework," she offers, grimacing at the end - she's no idea about advanced Biology or Chemistry or whatever they're taking.
Artemis: She looks at Zatanna hearing her bargaining and almost chuckles. "That’s very nice of you to offer, and while homework help and more relaxed professors sound awesome, Wally already has his mind set." Artemis says giving Zatanna a sincere look an taking another bite of a cookie. "We'll be around, as much as humanly possible."
Zatanna: "I will move in with you two, if you don't call at least once a week," she threatens. Then her lips curve in a sad smile. "I can't believe you're really doing this, it'd be so weird. You can't leave... Does anyone else know?"
Artemis: She shrugs. "Not really. I think Wally told Dick though. And you better believe we'll be skyping all the time. And visiting of course. Especially you, and Oliver and my mom..." Artemis' seemingly neutral faces falls. "I'm going to miss it like crazy Zee."
Zatanna: "Then stay," she insisted, with a big grin to soften the imperative in her voice. "Pretty, pretty please?" She sighed, the engines in her mind starting to work. "Is this because of... what happened with Tula and all of that?"
Artemis: "Partly. Wally...he's worried something like that might happen again... And..." Artemis can't help but fall victim to Zatanna's sweet begging. "For what it's worth, I'll try talking to Wallace."
Zatanna: "Tell that brick-head that I'll even go through the effort of casting a protection spell on you," she assured her, feigning annoyance, smiling a bit.
Artemis: "He means well, just being Wally." Artemis rolls her eyes at the thought of some of the many discussions and even arguments on the matter. "Hey, I have an idea that will cheer you up."
Zatanna: "Bring it on, girl," she smiles brightly, feeling like Artemis' and Wally's decision has somehow been at least delayed.
Artemis: "Let's go out. Like old times. Catch a few goons" She smirks remembering their fun "girls night"; which involves all the normal girl things with a little more action.
