jsyk i’m specifically salty about people saying damen is not gryffindor, citing qualities that actually do align with gryffindors, thank you. just because it’s obvious.......... doesn’t mean it’s not true........
(but at this point i’m a hypocrite bc i know that i can make my case about sorting no matter what the character or the house or whether or not i believe it, see: that time i went on a rant to Alba about ‘reasons why laurent is a hufflepuff’ even though i don’t believe he is, i think he’s ravenclaw...... i think it’s the fault of my english degree and the one skill it gave me: Bullshitting Analysis)

yeah and tbh it annoys me how slytherin has been romanticized bc jkr 'hated it' so ppl sort everyone there to spite her and they miss the point of the whole house, just like they reject gryff bc 'all the good were there and it's bullshit' but THERE'S MORE TO THOSE HOUSES THAN BEING PETTY
^like, don’t get me wrong, i don’t agree with everything jkr did, and i do think the gryffindor = good, slytherin = bad dichotomy is a simplistic and bad, but i also think that the house system is meant to be flawed. because a lot of things based on ancient tradition are, and the text shows that wizards are overly insular and reliant on tradition to a fault
and it’s really strange to me that in all this, gryffindor ends up being the one that’s over-simplified in fandom, when it’s actually the one we see represented by the widest range of characters? like whenever people sort characters, they seem to willfully forget that people like hermione granger, neville longbottom, peter pettigrew and minerva mcgonagall were in gryffindor and if that doesn’t show the concept of ‘bravery and chivalry’ has some nuance then idk what does
