Peltor Comtac IV
The ugly duckling of the Comtac lineup. Almost nobody wanted these things when they came out and now they're discontinued and getting harder to find.
Effectively just a set of earbuds on a pair of pseudo-headphones to house all the electronics. These must've come as a surprise to the market used to Peltor's earmuff-style hearing protection, and seem like a useless, expensive gimmick on the surface.
While that may be the case, these do offer a few benefits - the Comtac IV's horseshoe-shaped earcup design is incredibly comfortable, and allows greater ventilation than what any earmuff-style headset could provide.
The earbuds offer better situational awareness and direct audio clarity, while the headset design eliminates the issue of having to manage thin earbud cables around your kit.
They're goofy, they're gimmicky But honestly? I kinda like them for what they are Just another instance that "bizarre" doesn't equal "bad"
