Yozuru's Valentine Story Concept
I suddenly got an idea for a Valentine story for Yozuru, its a bit inspired by Homura's.
Story
There's a customer that has been coming quite a lot who always requests Yozuru to be the one to adjust her. The girl is a Tokime Clan member (because those girls have the least amount of significant story appearances) and she’s obviously crushing on Yozuru, which Livia notices but decides to observe rather than interfere (since an adjuster getting involved with another magical girl would bring their neutrality into question) since it IS Yozuru, who’s dense as hell to what’s going on. And speaking of her, Yozuru is confused as to why the girl always requests her specifically, but Livia passes it off as a sign that Yozuru’s service is good, which makes Yozuru happy, since that means her training has been working on bettering her lack of ‘gentleness’. The girl continues coming, once mentioning that Shizuka scolded her for borrowing extra grief seeds from other clan members for adjustments (just to have an excuse to see Yozuru).
Valentines comes around the corner, and the girl tries to figure out Yozuru’s plans (which Yozuru mistakes as her making an appointment for an adjustment on Valentine), Livia, meanwhile, starts growing worried about the damage Yozuru'a reputation might take for rejecting the girl, deciding that she will interfere if the situation starts heading that way. Valentine’s Day comes, and the girl goes to give Yozuru some pretty non-platonic chocolate, which Yozuru cluelessly accepts while giving her some chocolate she prepared. The girl is, suffice to say, elated to get chocolate from her crush. The girl mentions to Yozuru that she has to go back early to pack since she has to go back to her village, which has seen a rise in witches in the surrounding areas, so as a local, she has to go exterminate them. She leaves but comes back later after realizing she forgot to take the chocolate Yozuru gave her but ends up witnessing some Promised Blood members giving chocolate to Yozuru as thanks for her tireless service, which Yozuru accepts the same way she accepted the girl’s chocolate, and even offers them the same chocolate she gave her (implying that Yozuru is following a script) the girl, heartbroken and disillusioned, leaves quietly without taking her forgotten chocolate. Days later, Shizuka and a few Tokime Clan members come and visit Puella Care to see Yozuru, Livia starts getting worried that they came to deal with Yozuru, but they say that they’re currently in mourning, so their visit is personal rather than business. Shizuka explains that the girl who went back to her village to exterminate witches died, and they found a diary with her belongings, detailing her admiration towards Yozuru, and in the last few entries, her tone becomes somber and miserable since she realized that Yozuru’s kindness towards her wasn’t personal, and that she was just another customer. It’s evident that the girl was distracted, as she mentions getting hurt a lot more than usual against witches, and it ended up costing her her life. Shizuka and the others make it clear that they don’t blame Yozuru for what happened with the girl, it’s their fault for not noticing how caught up she was with her crush and her behavior before leaving, and after excusing themselves, Shizuka and the others leave. Livia asks the silent Yozuru if she’s okay, but the answer is what she feared: Yozuru is perfectly fine, she talks about how unfortunate it is that they lost a loyal customer but she’s determined to work harder. Livia, meanwhile, is somewhat distraught, since this reaction just made it clear that, despite her recent signs of improvement, Yozuru is still as unemphatic as always. Livia says nothing and leaves her alone. Yozuru begins thinking about things: she was happy when she thought she was getting better, but her lack of sadness at the news just shoves the fact that she’s still hasn’t managed to get back her gentleness in her face, and that she hopes that one day, when she manages to do so, she will be able to mourn the girl then.
