To change the theme, actually not, it’s all connected... Jeremy Donaldson @rolling.studio nose pick on the wall at Stockwell skatepark built in the 70s in inner London. Jeremy used to be a subscriber to my old magazine @concussionmagazine and we were in contact via email so when I went on my ‘vision quest’ at 31 years old lurking around Europe for 18 months, he and @madillness were two of the first fellas in England I met up with and I shot this epic moment with my ol’ Nikon F4 on #trix400 black and white film in 2005. My cover shot of Concussion magazine issue 1, from 1995. Looking back I'm wondering why Davoud and I chose this shot for the cover? I suppose because of the laugh factor of the roller blader squeeling in fear - the look on his face. We wanted to do something different than the other mags, cover things WE were interested in (empty pools and concrete bowls and the few existing diy spots and interviews and show reviews of the bands we listened to), not just street skateboarding which was 95% of what ALL the other mags covered at the time. Well, this was the cover of issue 1. Unidentified skater doing an unidentified trick at The Grind in Sacramento (notice no energy drink or jock sports shoe logo sponsors in the background). Photo: J.
