Under the cut, from the next bit of 'Conductor, Ringmaster', featuring Klaus and Kar'niss.

“‘Normal’,” He said, tilting his head, “I’ve always found that word to be a bit of a trick, myself.”

“A trick?” Kar’niss frowned, unsure.

“Well…” 

Klaus adjusted himself a little so he could look down at him. He stroked a pale curl from the drider’s brow, tucking it behind his ear. Kar’niss eyes were darting across Klaus’s face, betraying the anxiety behind them, the little shutterings of his blinks slowed for a moment. 

“Let me tell you about a man,” Klaus said, tangling his fingers in Kar’niss’ hair as he spoke, “a man with a job. It’s a hard job, because it’s actually a lot of other little jobs and it moves around a bit, but he loves it because that means he never gets bored.”

“He loves his colleagues, too,” Klaus added, “some of them are difficult, some of them are incredible, and they’re like a family to him. They’re his friends. Some of them are even his best friends.”

“Then, at the end of a long day when he's done working, he gets to come home and take off his shoes and rest his aching bones in the arms of a beautiful, wonderful, caring man.”

He smiled again.

“That’s a pretty normal sounding story, isn’t it?” He said, “I bet that describes a lot of people, except…”

Klaus glanced around them now, taking stock of the moment for what it was as he lay there. His body thoroughly entangled around that of a drider who’s many legs hung in the air around them both atop their elaborately constructed pile of pillows and webs in their cave that was actually a tent, in a shadow realm, lit by the magical lantern they purchased in a land of faeries, occupying one little corner of an extra-planar travelling circus run by a necromancer.

“Normal kind of looks like what you make it,” Klaus said with a little shrug.

Last Six Lines

I was tagged by the wonderful and incredibly talented @graysparrowao3 - thank you Gray!

I've not been super well so writing has been a liiiiil slow, but here's a last six lines from the upcoming chapter of 'Conductor, Ringmaster' (Klaus x Kar'niss)

Don’t let him wake up alone. He rose to his feet, and straightened. Then he turned and, carefully, climbed up the edge of the crates and boxes. He stepped over to the edge where Kar’niss was draped across it - one arm stretched over the pillows, his head resting there with pale curls pooled about him. Klaus lowered himself down slowly - trying not to jostle as he went, resting himself down amongst the pillows across from him so he could look at him. He looked almost peaceful now; the exhaustion, Estrella’s spell having so effectively rendered him unconscious that perhaps, just for this time, his mind was for once truly empty.

Snippet/WIP Tuesday Wednesday

I was tagged by the wonderful @lemonsrosesandlavender and lovely @coreene in two similar but not exactly the same prompts so I am combining! Thank you both.

A snippet of Klaus chinwagging with a hag, as he does, from the next bit of 'Conductor, Ringmaster.'

“Do you know how most of us come to be? Us ‘hags’?” Klaus did, but he let her explain; her question had the air of a ramping-up point, and he didn't want to interrupt her flow. “We're stolen; sweet and innocent little girls, robbed away to become sisters - to become part of our covens,” she said. “Ghouls, mummies reborn, your poor, dear sweet drider,” she listed, “so many of your friends were not simply born - but wrenched and thrust and crumpled into what they now are.” She turned to him, ready to deliver her point, he expected. “They had no choice,” she said, “tell me, little dragon - how does that fit into your little world, where nothing has to be what is expected from it?” She leant in a little. “What for those of us who already aren't what we were supposed to be?” Klaus considered her question. He knew what she was driving at, sensing this particular wrinkle in his philosophy was one that sat at odds with her own. Then again, why wouldn't it? The very thing that changed her also gave her such magic she could warp and change the world around her too; could offer such things to others … but, no, that was a lie. There was much she could not change.  The truth; that many things were immutable, herself included, was the sting behind that promise. To Estrella, perhaps, she was the greatest thing of all that could not be changed. She didn't really see that it wasn't her that needed changing; only what she chose to do about it. Gods it was hard to think here. “I'll answer your question with my own, Estrella,” Klaus replied. “Whatever happened to you before, you can still decide from here." “Your choice was robbed from you once,” he turned to her. "Do you really want to let it be taken from you for the rest of your life, too?”
