Bonus Day
It's winter break, but the indoor track team was in competition today! It's our first meet of the season, and, for many of our athletes, their first meet ever. It's a lot to take in because the UNH field house is small, there are a ton of people, it's kind of a sensory overload at first. But everyone did SO WELL.
The boys and girls teams both racked up some points, but that really wasn't our main focus; really, it was training (racing is still training), learning how meets work, getting preliminary marks to improve upon. It is good to see our veterans returning stronger and faster, though, and to see our rookies managing their pre-meet anxieties and having fun.
It wasn't perfect- a missed start here, a dropped baton there- but it was good, and the team left in high spirits. The meet did run late, so the teams racing in the later session were coming in as we were leaving. That included my cousin's team, so I loitered in the hall for a minute in order to say hi to her and wish her luck.
I wasn't holding up my own team by doing that since I came to the meet in my own car rather than on the bus. That's so I could leave from UNH to drive to my dad's house for the holidays, and that's where I am now!
So now it's REALLY vacation for me. Merry Christmas, everyone!
