when I started shipping widobrave: i can pinpoint this exactly. It was when I saw this art of the kiss by aramantheia. I think the first time I cried watching cr was when veth kissed him on the lips but even at that point I was like “…they seem like very good friends” and it hadn’t quite clicked that their feelings might be anything different. But when i saw that art afterwards it awakened something in me.
my thoughts / what makes me happy about them: just that they’re so physically affectionate and close with one another. It’s just comforting. It’s like I have a crush on their love. Whenever they have a check in during the game, they can be honest and raw in a way that neither of them are with anybody else, because they know what rock bottom looks like so that type of vulnerability isn’t an issue. They shaped each others’ stories, saved one another, literally rebuilt each other, and chose to stay family after all of it. I guess I also have a big soft spot for friends-to-lovers and mutual, oblivious pining. evil smile
what makes me sad about them: towards the end it felt like they couldn’t be fully honest about their feelings because veth was herself again and it was more apparent that she was married, so, though they clearly needed each other, it would feel wrong to admit that. Veth being canonically in love with him was never explicitly addressed. Also, the fact that caleb had a crush on at least two other people put a certain dampener on things lmao.
Things I look for in a fanfic: this is tricky because I haven’t read fic about them in months :( I kinda stopped after I left the widobrave server because I thought it’d just make me sad. But I love qpr fics where they walk the line between friendship and romance or they’re friends but there’s tension or there’s a sense of taboo to their pining. I’m not a huge fan of happily ever afters or marriage; I like things to feel a little open ended and bittersweet. Also one of the things I most look for without realising is if I can imagine the players speaking n narrating at the table (with the exception of nsfw obviously). I gotta read it in their voices.
Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: for veth, yeza. For caleb…. i am honestly so petty I dislike pretty much every other caleb ship. that’s just the way i am </3
My happily ever after for them: they coparent Luc together with Yeza, so the wee lad grows up the most loved and nurtured halfling in exandria and Caleb gets to heal and be part of the family he missed out on. Veth lives her polyam dream, she and caleb have a camp for young adventurers in the woods every summer, caleb teaches in rexxuntrum, eventually veth starts teaching there too, and all the students gossip about them.
Who is the big spoon/little spoon: caleb is big spoon most of the time but I also think they can sleep in pretty much any position as long as they’re touching, see: caleb sleeping with his head on veth’s ankles, veth curling up against his thigh, waking up with her head on his shoulder. Holding hands. any excuse to lay on each other tbh.
What is their favourite non-sexual activity: quietly co-working by candlelight, inventing spells ✨
