ConKagKal Parental Senses
Hey! I haven’t posted my own stuff in forever but I found this old gem while poking around my Drive. I wrote this for my friend @masquerabe like a year ago for her ship ConKagKal after watching a ton of Father senses videos.
Kagome
For once, it actually seemed to be a peaceful day at home. Conner and Kaldur were out handling groceries with Ol’ahn and she had Saya and Van to herself. Who were both, for once. Down for a nap. Kagome found this to be the opportune time to finally relax, maybe read one of the many books she had sitting on their nightstand. Kagome lounged letting out a deep sigh as she began to flip through the first few pages of her novel.
A few minutes had past and the previous enjoyment Kagome had gotten by turning each page had soured. Now with every turn of a page she was waiting for one of the twins to cry out and complain for her after their nap. They could merely be tired and actually sleeping for once. But Kagome knew them both. Van would always wake first and howl and scream for Kagome. Waking his sister and upsetting the entire household. And she had never known either of them to take longer the 20 minute naps without at least one parent nearby.
Something was wrong. Kagome closed her book and set it back, listening intently for any stirring or commotion of her super toddlers moving around. Kagome slowly crept down the steps, scared that she heard nothing. But her blood went cold when she heard Van quietly giggle. She bolted from her place on the stairs and sprinted into the living room.
Van had tilted one of their couches completely back with one hand. Holding it as Saya had crawled underneath for whatever god awful reason.
Kagome let out a scream “VAN!”
He jumped whipping his head back to her as his hold slipped, dropping the couch. All thoughts fled Kagome’s mind as she bolted forward grabbing Van by his arm and wrenching him away. All while she shot her other hand forward to catch the couch. Kagome barely noticed the weight failing on her arm as she snapped at Saya.
“Saya! Now!” was all she could muster as her daughter scrabbled out from underneath the couch, thoroughly terrified. Kagome dropped it with a heave as soon as Saya was safely away. Her head was light from adrenaline as she whipped around to grab Saya from the floor by the shoulder ready to scream at the both of them for being so careless.
But as she turned the twins to her she was met with red sobbing faces, blubbering apologies and gripping her shirt.
“I-I-I’m soorryy!” Van sobbed, coughing and choking between sobs.
Saya stood by clutching a dusty toy in hand and was crying fully her body wracking with each gasp.
Any anger that Kagome had held previously melted. As she smothered the both of them into her arms.
“Alright. Alright.” she bundled the both of them close and fell to her knees. “It’s alright, no one got hurt.” Her burning arm, wrapped around Saya’s back said otherwise. “Shhhh. Shhhh.” She rubbed the both of their backs as they pressed themselves into her. “It’s ok. It’s ok.”
After the both of them had calmed slightly she pulled them back to look at their faces. Both still red, but considerably less wet.
“Now listen to me. Don’t ever lift furniture again.” Kagome found it hard to keep a strict tone as their faces worsened in guilt.
“That was extremely dangerous and you both terrified me,” Van looked considerably downcast. Kagome softened. “If you ever need help, don’t ever be afraid to ask me or your fathers alright?”
They both shied from replying.
“Alright?” They nodded sheepishly “Yes Ma’am”
“Ok.” Kagome pulled them both back into a hug. Looking at the dust caught up in Saya’s hair.
“Let’s go take a bath before your dad’s get home ok?”
Conner
Conner was exhausted, he had had a long day of fighting villain made monsters away. As such Kagome and Kaldur both agreed to leave him at home with 3 month Ol’ahn so that they could both rest for a while. His partners and run off to handle their own separate errands. Kagome mentioning something about a shrine and Kaldur mentioning the ocean. He hadn't bothered to get the details.
Ol’ahn slept peacefully against his chest as Conner was stretched over the back his arms propped on either side. Ol’ahn hadn’t stirred since Kagome had fed him so Conner assumed him to be unmoving for a while.
They both dosed uninterrupted for a good 20 minutes. Conner fading in and out. He had only barely noticed that Ol’ahn had stirred. Trying to lift his head to look at his dad, wiggling his body and arching his back in an effort to move it. Ol’ahn, still young and unbalanced began to tip backward as his daddy dosed.
Immediately without any grogginess to slow him, Conner jolted from his nap and lunged forward to catch his son his hand catching his head first and then his back. There was a beat of silence in the house as Conner stared at his son’s confused face in horror.
He had no idea how he had managed that. As he lifted his son back to his body and got up to transfer Ol’ahn to his crib. He had no idea, but he knew that his partners must never know.
Kaldur
Kaldur gave a full body shiver as he heard another high squeal at his right leg. It was A’llika, fussing and tugging at his pant leg. Rather impolitely asking to be picked up while Kaldur was making lunch. A’llika gave a particularly loud screech shaking his pant leg with her tiny fist glaring at him with alligator tears in her eyes. Furious that her papa refused to pick her up.
“I can’t right now baby. I’m making lunch ok?”
Kaldur couldn’t even look at his daughter's face. Atlantis forbid he succumbed to her puppy eyes again. A’llika was clingy by nature but she could only have ever become bratty by nurture. Something that both of his partners agreed he was at fault for, rather unfairly he thought. Just because he could never say no to holding her, or giving her candy, or buying toys…
Alright, maybe he was a little bit at fault. A’llika growled and gave a particularly solid shake to his leg. Irritating him enough to say “A’llika. That’s enough.”
She whined again tugged on his leg beginning to throw a fit. Kaldur kept his attention on the sandwiches he was making now angry at her brattiness instead of finding it endearing. A’llika gave his leg one more solid shove and plopped herself on the floor, glaring holes into her father.
There was a long beat of silence as Kaldur continued to make lunch. He actually felt accomplished in being able to refuse his daughter. Even during one of her tantrums. What he was unaware of however was how A’llika planned to get back at him.
She had plotted that if her father would not turn to look at her, she would merely enter his line of sight anyway. But that required a bit of climbing. A’llika had managed to clamber her way up the handles on the cupboards until she could nearly pull herself up of the counter. Her young legs struggling to push her on top of them.
She pulled and bounced on the cupboard handles trying to just pull herself up. But as she adjusted her foot on the handle beneath her she slipped, falling back.
Kaldur only had to hear her squeak of panic before he dove to the floor to catch his daughter, dropping whatever food he was making in the process. She landed safely in his arms as he belly flopped the linoleum lifting his head to save his face from injury. A’llika sat in her father's arms confused as he groaned in pain on the floor. His chest and knees feeling deeply bruised. He lowered A’llika to the ground while she smiled in triumph at finally winning his attention.
His partners could give A’llika the silent treatment from now on. He’d learned his lesson, and he was never doing it again.
