Bare feet waded through the water of the river, careful as she stepped over slick stone. There was a buzz about the village with his return, caution almost. But that was where she stood out - as she normally did whenever he was involved. Her skin vibrated for the opposite reason, not caution, but elation at him being back. It took years of prayer, but someone finally heard and answered.
Clothes laid folded, but discarded on a rock along the treeline as Mahonie took a rare few moments to enjoy the feel of water against naked flesh. A few moments she thought she had been spending alone. This visitor, though, she wouldn’t shun away so easily. Moving from where she had been wading, she came in just enough that feet could touch the bottom once more.
“You were sleeping when I left,” the only person who deserved a reason as to why they woke up in an empty house. “Did you sleep well?”
