The Rangers have signed outfielder/first baseman Conor Jackson and lefty Joe Beimel to minor league contracts with invitations to Spring Training. Jackson is a versatile right handed hitter that can handle lefties and play all 4 corner positions (3B, LF, RF, 1B). Last year he hit .244 with 5 HR and 43 RBIs and 17 2B in 390 ABs. He should compete for one of the bench spots and could prove to be a useful role player for the Rangers. I like this signing simply because of his versatility...the bench killed the Rangers in the playoffs last year. Beimel is a situational lefty with some experience. After losing Oliver and Mike Gonzalez, the Rangers desperately need a lefty in the pen but I don't think Beimel is all that special. He does have experience, but not much else. Last year he was 1-1 with a 5.33 ERA in 25.1 IP. He gets a decent amount of ground balls @ 41.2%, but his control is average at best @ 3.2 BB/9. I doubt that he will have any major impact on the Rangers.
