"Ugh..."
"Mm..? What is it?"
The mage stared boredly out of the window of their apartment, watching the flickering lights over the city as a light rain sprinkled over the Promenade level. He leaned on the window with folded arms, a steaming cup of coffee in his hand as he kept his gaze outward, not moving or glancing over when Abel walked over. Robin finally peered up to him and his eyelids fell halfway, catching the sharp angle of his jawline. Robin's voice was soft as he spoke, unsure of itself,
"I just...I...I just want to know why you turned down that job offer with Miss Glasc. She could get you far."
The air was quiet between them for a few moments before Robin flinched at the sudden feeling of a cigarette poking his lips. He opened instinctually and watched as Abel brought the lighter to his own, sparking the tobacco to life. Green eyes met red and Robin stared at him for a long moment, watching his partner lean in and press the embers of his cigarette to Robin's. The ashes spread between the both of them as Abel murmured,
"You really have to ask that...? After 8 years..?"
The two pulled back from the proximity and Robin kept his eyes on Abel's, how their cigarettes nearly brushed eachother. A part of his heart ached at those soft red eyes, the harshness of his partner had faded as his humanity grew over time. Robin had practically forgotten that Abel was just a mask and...his hand brushed his. The man watched him carefully, curiously raising a brow as he spoke.
"Well...?"
"I..." He bit his lip, he wanted to say so much. To relay so much to him--but...but....How? He couldn't force the words out and he found himself stumbling over them before he finally did speak. Words of callousness, "I suppose the pay is better here, plus you have a lot of allies. No need to start over."
"..." Abel stared, before he pulled away fully and sighed, blowing smoke away from him, gazing out the window. "And the view is to die for."
His words left Robin's lips yearning.
