💜 😅 😏 💻 👎 💬 also that was a complete shitter to accomplish on chromebook
Thanks baaaabe! Holy shit, this was so much harder than anticipated.
💜- top 3 favorite linesShe’s set to launch into some of her greatest hits – adulterers blistering in the lake of fire, the Whore of Babylon getting her tits sliced off and fed to Satan’s hellhounds; real fun stuff – when a soft but unmistakable moan pierces the relative solemnity of the church. -Whistle For the Choir
“And now, I don’t remember exactly how it went down, but one minute we’re talking about God and shit, and the next I’m on my knees, face to face with this humongous dick – I mean it’s a real meaty fucker, so I’m kinda feeling unsure of things – but that’s when it hits me. This is a transformative experience. This is like- like Communion! You take the body of Christ inside of you, and – boom, you’re changed! And this guy’s a priest – it’s like divine intervention. So I take this beautiful beefcake’s dick into my mouth and Mother. Of. God.” Mac grins like a fat kid eye-fucking a plate full of brownies and takes a big gulp of his beer. “I had never felt more attuned to God’s will for me.” -Figure It Out (bit of a cheat, because it’s a paragraph, but it’s really a package deal. And it made me giggle.)
They’re like vultures picking at a steaming hunk of roadkill, hands plucking off articles of clothing and stripping him down to the tender flesh underneath. -Conscience Killer
😅- a line that made you feel second hand embarrassment
Lol any of the times in New Obsession where I used the phrase “little bird.” Not that those exist anymore lalalala
😏- your most risky lineYeah, there’s really no other option than this from Tear You Apart: “The bastard is grinning wildly again, and the submissive Penguin can do nothing but watch as Ed wipes the bloody appendage on his face, from one cheek to the other, like a painter drawing his first broad stroke across a pristine canvas.”
💻- three works of yours that are must readsI’m gonna limit the scope to just solo works, otherwise it’d be too hard not to pick the joint stuff.
Whistle for the Choir: British humor, confessional wanking, Biro vibrators and two middle-aged women who are funny and filthy and absolutely perfect for each other.
Tear You Apart: I’ll never do anything more risque than the good ol BFP, and that fills me with pride. (There was some reasonably nice prose in this one as well.)
Conscience Killer: Drugs, a sick Charlie, and Dee and Dennis being absolutely horrible people. It won’t be for everyone, but it’s probably my best Charlie and one of my most satisfying fics to write.
👎- if you could change something in one of your works, what would you change and why? It’s almost a cop-out to pick on New Obsession, because it’s super old and shit, but if I were to change things, I’d probably tighten it up with some editing (it took ages to get to the porn in chapters 2-3), and I’d change the name because it’s always been cringey to me. Like a cheap perfume or something lol.
💬- describe one of your completed works in three words
Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo: Filthy, funny, fucked-up
alrighty: 1, 7, 11, 19, 24, 30 GO
1: A song you like with a color in the title
How ‘bout a little Back In Black from AC/DC - which should be played loud and sung to as badly as possible.
7A song to drive to
I’m gonna go with Jesus of Suburbia by Green Day, because when I was commuting to school three days a week back in ‘05, I played that damn record every day and that was my fave, sooo.
11: A song that you never get tired of
Ugh man, there’s so many. But at the moment let’s go with Berlin, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. It bangs so fucking hard. UGH
19 A song that makes you think about life
Weirdly enough, Bless This Acid House, Kasabian. It makes me feel like hopeful and shit? Like hanging out with friends and just generally having a great fkn time. It’s just nice.
24: A song by a band you wish were still together
Dead! My Chemical Romance - Honestly I could name any song off that record but this one's just so bouncy and shit. And then they do the harmonizey thing that I'm such a whore for (see also the dearly beloved part of Jesus of Suburbia), and it’s just all the YES. Wow, I am great with words today.
30: A song that reminds you of yourself
Orgasm Addict, The Buzzcocks. Which, honestly, needs no explanation.
yo i'm late and 3, 4, 10, 15, 18, 30
Better late than never, my dear! Thanks <3
3. Where do you write best?
At work lols. I’m fairly certain the extra wrongness of writing porn at work adds to the whole creative experience. Plus, there’s not really anything for me to get distracted by like there is at home; the writing IS the distraction when I’m stuck in the office all day.
4. Do you do word sprints? If so, for how long do you do them, and what’s your average word count?
Mom beat ya to it!
10. Do you have a specific philosophy that you go by when you write?
Not really a philosophy so much; just a goal of making something fun. Making sure I’m not just rewriting a story I’ve already told - which, as we’ve discussed, gets harder and harder as time goes by. My main focus, in the end, is to make something I’d want to read and be true to that.
15. How do you plan your writing?
I rarely plan, unless we’re doing something together. I usually start with a random bit of dialogue I fancy, or a paragraph of setup and just see where it takes me. I have gotten to where I do jot a loose outline as the thing progresses, because I tend to write bits here and there and start to get overwhelmed if I don’t give myself a framework to put them in.
18. Would any characters from one of your works go well with your others?
Well, we’ve always said that Dennis and Ed (as we envisioned him) would get on really well, and I think that’s quite true. The sense of ego, the detachment, the calculating (yet somehow still dumbass) genius - if I weren’t so allergic to AU and crossovers, I’d totally put those two together and see what happens.
30. What’s your favorite part about writing?
I was hoping I’d get this one. :3 My favorite bit is the satisfaction that comes from creating something. Telling a story from start to finish. Beating my head against problems that arise (whether it’s in figuring out some bit of plot or the right phrase to use) and figuring out how to solve them. I love words. The act of putting them together and making something that someone might find beautiful (or beautiful but disgusting) gives me a huge sense of satisfaction. It makes me feel smarter than I actually am.
3 (back me up here bitch); 14; 17; 18; 21; 30
3. “said”-- overused or underused?Underused. And I don't just say this as a newspaper; people don't always have to grunt or chirp or what have you. That's not to say that I don't use those, but I think a lot of times, you end up with a stronger narrative if you find other ways to convey the way someone communicates something. Instead of saying "Blah, blah, blah," he huffed angrily, show us that he's angry instead. Describe the body language, the expression, the action accompanying the words. It all goes back to the best storytelling advice I've come across: Show, don't tell.
14. how has your writing style changed over the years?I've gotten less flowery for sure; less reliant on overly colorful metaphor. I've also pulled back on my thesaurus usage (which was great for a super smart character like Ed who would be expected to have a big vocabulary, but would ring entirely hollow for the likes of the Gang).
17. something you use a lot in your writing but didn’t notice until it was pointed out?Hmmm, probably semicolons? Lol. Which was more a product of teaching you about 'em and suddenly noticing just how much I used them.
18. a cliché thing you use in your writing?I’m not sure if this means a certain phrase or a theme. If we’re talking themes I reckon I’m a bit too fond of the overly ambiguous ending? I’m drawing a blank lol.
21. dialogue or description?Description. I can spend a thousand words inside a character's head or trying to set up the action and think nothing of it. It's so much easier to keep things isolated than to play that back and forth with dialogue, and that's largely because I struggle most with writing the action around the exchange. Dialogue itself is pretty easy, but making the characters do things so they're not just cardboard figures saying things to each other in a vacuum complicates things considerably for me. Show not tell can be tough sometimes.
30. what don’t you like about your writing style?I tend to be a one-track mind when I write. Get from point A to point B; don't meander too far from the path. I think sometimes that keeps me from delving into details that might enrich a character or a scene. I play things a bit safe (I suppose out of fear that I may lose them if I take the long way ‘round).
