Conspicuous Silence...
Need a word for the conspicuous silence of single people when, in a weak moment, you publicly feel bad about your lack of a lovelife. The married or otherwise in relationships people are quick with words of encouragement or reassurance but those known single people from your desired sex within earshot...not a peep lest they become (or already happen to be) the object of your forlorn desires.
Not sure if this should be a French neologism like “coup de (something)” or “mal de (something)”, a German compound noun à la schadenfreude, or even something Yiddish. Something easy on the English tongue, though.
