I just had this idea for either a slice of life series or a soap-opera-esque romance (or some middle-ground there of) revolving around a group of career-length (multiple expedition) inter-planetary traders using a constant acceleration drive to travel between two systems some 5 to 10 light-years apart (and their connections on both planets). Like, it could be an interesting exploration on the effects on relationships that spending years away from home from your own perspective, but decades away from home from other people's perspectives could have, as well as an exploration of the daily routines of someone who spends a large chunk of their life traveling deep space, followed by a year or two exploring an alien culture that's probably had little contact with the human race (as well as said aliens' reactions to meeting humans for the first time, and any relationships that might blossom from there). Imagine saying goodbye to your 18 year old best friend, then coming home a few years later to find them in their 40s, married and with children who are themselves now in their teens. And then a few expeditions later, still being in the prime of your life while most of the people you knew back home when you started this job have died of old age... but now you're meeting their great grandkids... And imagine what it'd be like to be meeting an alien culture, and have them meet you, for the first time? For that matter, imagine getting to see both culture progress several centuries throughout the course of your life. It's potentially a really uncomfortable experience, but then again... for the right people, it could also be very positive. Getting to see two societies progress so much, as well as the families you know... ... Ok, so honestly, thinking about it, this (or something close to it) has probably already been done. But even so...
