Yes!  That's really the best way to do it.  And it's interesting how defining a thing with a word makes it so much more accessible and easier to talk about.

CO OTP is really good!!  If you can convince people not to use the dash that really needs to catch on.

None of us ever really said that you had to change their minds, we never said anything like that at all. It’s just difficult for some people who aren’t very large or maybe are new in the fandom to feel accepted if they don’t enjoy the big things.

It sucks that people have a hard time feeling welcome, and those of us invested in changing that can do our best to make things better, but just expecting people who are into the popular things to be responsible for making the less popular things better loved is going about things the wrong way.  The only thing that makes a positive difference is to keep promoting what we ourselves love.  You've done this and though your niche is not the size of others, fans recognize you as the person to go to for Atlas and Pbody.

I know I sound like a jackass as the popular person saying this, but it shouldn't be about what's popular, it's about enjoying what you love and expressing that.

I'm really privileged to be pretty well liked in this fandom, I lucked out on being into the most popular character and the most popular pairing of a pretty popular video game, so being well liked is easier for me than it is for many people and I'm grateful for what that is.  But this is the first time I've been into something big(ish).  Before this, I was drawing stuff for cancelled shows and bombed movies.  And I loved those experiences dearly!  When I first got into this particular niche of the fandom, it was an indeterminate size of people posting anonymously on various chans, and then on livejournal.  I was drawing my pictures for one person whose story I enjoyed, just to work to get over some artistic phobias and encourage that one other person to keep working on something I like.

I know that a lot of the people who care about these overlooked characters and pairings do sincerely love what they are into, and if popularity were based on merit and quality, there would definitely be many differences in how much attention different fanworks get.  You make my favorite Atlas and Pbody art and animations, some of the best cartooning in the fandom, and I sincerely enjoy seeing it because I enjoy the entirety of the games (though I obviously have my own favorites).  I can keep doing my part to promote what I enjoy, both in my own work and in others. But I can't control anybody else.  I can't change what they are drawn to, anymore than I can get Sherlock fans to care about my Chelley pictures. And being exasperated at Sherlock fans for that isn't going to appeal them to my interests anyway, and will just spread some bad feelings without accomplishing much.
