Sarah Smiles- Panic! at the Disco
It wasn’t suppose to happen like this.
Throughout all his time in the academy he’d purposefully kept a distance from romance, had barely even contemplated dating. In his mind it had been trivial amidst their training. Even those who did manage to find a reason to confess their infatuation to him- well, suffice to say they’d been brushed off. It had been a necessity, after all. There were more important things to focus on, and to be quite honest he’d been so wrapped up in himself that he’d hardly contemplated having someone so significant in his life. Enough people had been taken from him. It had been his sincere opinion that relationships were meant to end, and it was a risk that he just wasn’t willing to take.
Even after he’d been expelled things still hadn’t been too bad. The quiet was usually appreciated, he was fine, just a guy living on his own.
Maybe that’s why it was so difficult now, coming to terms with the way his stomach would flip when he so much as thought of his fellow paladin. His heart would beat quicker than a rabbit’s, both mentally and physically concerning. How had he ever been unaware that he was in the same room with the other boy?
Now Lance was the only thing he could think of. Velvet lips and the eyes to pull him in? They both knew he’d win, but Keith had tried not to go down without a fight. Feelings were usually pretty temporary, he told himself could get over it.
He didn’t. If anything, time had strengthened what he refused to acknowledge.
Did Lance even know? Was he that good at hiding it? Could the other paladin go hours on end without having even a single sickly wanton feeling for someone who didn’t even act all too find of him?
He couldn’t help but feel cheated. This wasn’t what he needed, especially not in the midst of a war. They had to focus on more important things, but he felt like he was being torn slowly apart. Meanwhile the other man walked around, smiling like he didn’t care. He lived in a world so unaware, none the wiser to how it was killing Keith inside, consuming all his time. His mind had been so muddled recently, and he knew the team had noticed.
Was it obvious? Were they just being polite? Did he even care?
No, not anymore. There was no denying his feelings. He loved Lance, but despite having resigned to this fact he still couldn’t muster the courage to say anything about it. It was plaguing his mind. Even now, he couldn’t help his eyes wandering towards the other boy, his chest clenching tight.
Does he know that my destiny lies with him?
