Construction Fences go Up!
Last week our loan officially closed and our contractor was able to get going. Step #1 was to put up fences and secure the site. Thank you to our next door neighbor Bob who was willing to forgo his side yard for the next few months! We will be building him a new fence section and gate on that side when it’s complete so it’s not totally a bad deal for him.
Step #2 was to drop off the dumpster and install the BMPs. BMPs stands for “Best Management Practices” - they are for storm water mitigation. Essentially the straw waddles at the base of the fence keep any mud from flowing off our property and into the storm drain. Since storm drains flow to canyons and oceans here in SD we are doing our part to keep our construction debris out of the gutters.
These photos were taken last week, and I was so excited because this is finally happening!! Our house looks like a construction site!
In my previous post with the before photos, I ended with a photo of the garage where there was a large pile of trash. After we moved 1/4 of our stuff to the rental, put 1/4 of our stuff in storage (shout out to Coronado Mobile Storage!), gave away 1/4 of our stuff (thanks for picking through it Kino!), the final 1/4 was garbage/recycle. Our contractor offered to let us load our trash into his dumpster to save the cost of his labor to do it. So the day after Thanksgiving we made one final trip to the house and burnt off our turkey by loading the dumpster. We also demolished our shed (due to threat of change order for contractor to do this). Thanks to Matt for the help! Finally we had about 20 cans of paint that needed to go in the trash too but you can’t throw liquid paint in the trash.... so.... thankfully Sherwin Williams took the paint off our hands for free and they will be recycling it!
With the house finally cleared out - we were ready for Demo to start on 11/30/20!
I’m trying to convince my husband to have a vinyl sign printed with his architecture firm name to put on this fence - hey it’s free advertising! I bet someone in our neighborhood will want to do a renovation like this to their house once they see ours... or more likely they will know who to call and complain to due to the construction noise - LOL
