may I just say--I don't ship Destiel (tbh, I barely ship anything at all on the show just because I love to focus on the FAMILY dynamic and such) but I read through your post, and I respect you a lot for it. Some shippers--not just of Destiel, but others as well--are so absorbed in their ship that they refuse to respect other opinions. Whether or not Destiel becomes canon, it DOES exist for those who ship it. And, let's be honest--some of the greatest ships out there were never actually canon.
This is really nice of you! I know some shippers [from any part of the fandom] can get so caught up in their ship that they absolutely will not stand for an opinion that is contrary to their own. In fact I find it a bit sad and unsettling. In any fandom you are going to have differing opinions, especially about ships. Not everyone is going to agree about who should be together and who shouldn't. This should not separate us as a fandom. I ship Destiel obviously, but I ship other things and I totally get why people don't ship Dean and Cas. There are those like you who aren't shippers and watch the show for the family aspect which is great! [I see the show as a story ultimately about family too and see the shipping aspects as the branch to the main narrative, to be honest.] We shouldn't let things like ships and actor opinions come between us, because at the end of the day we are still the SPN Family and we need to stick together on this ride :)
