“You are full of surprises, Mr. Holmes.” His voice dripped with annoyance and insincerity. 

He’d waited until Sir Yates’s men departed for supper before emerging from the adjacent room, blue eyes quick to survey the drawing room, fingers brushing occasionally over much-touched surfaces. He estimated he had about half an hour to find the hidden microfilm and another ten to get away. 

Why Holmes was also there in disguise worried him, but not enough for him to pay the man much mind until he finished his first circuit around the room. He’d recognised the detective several minutes ago, though it was a difficult identification even for someone as experienced as Illya Kuryakin. He only knew it was the man for certain after climbing through the window and leveling him with his coldest, assessing stare. If it weren’t the celebrated detective, he would have shot him already.

“I saw you at a restaurant with your doctor an hour ago...and now you are here, a changed man. On one of your cases, unrelated to mine, I hope.” Illya had no patience for negotiated with private hires.
