From what I consider my part of Chicago’s lake front the northern ( well, northwestern ) skyline is my favorite. The Pink Hotel is a Chicago icon. It’,s Deco architecture is beautiful and is a result of its original purpose as a beach resort giving a maximum number of units with a view of the lake. Is the pink reference to Florida colors? It is certainly not a local color like it is for the southeast coast. It is a joy to to look at. A cut gem with so many facets. It is one of my favorites , as if you couldn’t tell. By the time I got to Foster Beach ,this day, I had lost the light that I came out for. The sun was low on the horizon. I had my tripod but my hands were cold and I kind-of half heartedly took this photo hand held since what light I had left was diminishing fast plus it seemed to flat to make into a good image to be worth the extra effort. I was wrong and am incredibly pleased with this photograph…the way the hotel rises out of the shadows to sparkle in the last light. It makes me think about history, my history here in Chicago and how grateful I am to be here with its trials and blessings.
