Utopia can never be lost as it is neither a place in the future nor the past, but rests on the threshold of a horizon bridging the real with the imaginary. As an envisioned ideal, Utopia holds the contradiction of being an aspired, better world together with the acknowledgement of its impossibility.
Rift, is representing a topography of an unknown place which is in a state of being pulled apart yet reconstructing and reconnecting at the same time. A ‘land’metaphoric of our current situation as humanity. It appears to be like a contested territory yet beyond that, it gains corporeality as if it is itself an evolving living being, composed of other living elements. Orientation points are altered and there is a point of tension as the elements are shifting, migrating while the Topography is bending, sinking, breaking, disconnecting and again gathering up with a merging gesture.
