WIPs & misc notes from the making of the training gif!
----
Found a bunch of WIPs I had exported while making the MK & Kirby training gif, so I'm putting together this set of notes.
Step 1 was thumbnails, 4 of the main sword poses doodled on paper.
Step 2 was drawing them out and animating the frames between the thumbnails, making the first version of the whole sequence. This was probably the longest step, where all the meat of the work was.
Then I traced over the sequence to make a Kirby version, and shifted the original over to get the first WIP I saved:
Very scratchy stuff. I would have wanted Kirby to be less in sync w MK to be a bit more natural, but this was the easy route. You can see the original ending for the gif, and MK looks weirdly small bc they're the same size here.
Next was adding Kirby's hat, which changed things:
While animating the hat, I got the idea to have it fall in Kirby's face for comedy value. MK was also bumped up to his larger size in v2.
Then MK got his face, and I made some timing adjustments:
After tweaking things back and forth a bit more I was happy with everything, so the final step was going through and lining each frame. This was probably the 2nd-longest chunk of work, but also the easiest:
Ta-da!
The gif ended up being just over 100 frames long @ 18fps, though I didn't have to directly draw every single frame.
(And here's just the end bit :D)
