Plant of the Day
Thursday 27 March 2025
The curious twisted branches of Corylus avellana 'Contorta' (corkscrew hazel, contorted hazel, Harry Lauder's walking stick) are covered with catkins at this time of year. This multi-stemmed shrub produces a densely branching, round crown. Older plants can benefit from crown lifting to expose the larger twisted main stems and allow planting underneath.
