Controllers and DVS — real or perceived need?
It is safe to say that the “less is more” attitude is becoming quite popular among DJs, working and bedroom alike. At home, the DJ’s lair can be a bit of a mess. There are piles upon piles of gear with bundles of wire potentially creating a tripping hazard. This doesn’t matter since there aren’t going to be any parties with drunk people in a small bedroom. On the road, the DJ certainly feels the weight of their gear. If it takes them five trips to haul in their gear – they may find themselves asking if they really need what they are bringing. Turntables alone can be the heaviest part of any system – and if you aren’t using them to DJ with, what is the point? Naturally, others will disagree about the usefulness of turntables when you are purely trying gig a party. A simple cut here and there may not be worth all of the hassle of bringing sensitive equipment in and out of a venue. Are we at the point where controllers can exist side by side with traditional DJ decks while still being considered equally as important? The debate is still on, but it is much less polarized. http://djworx.com/poll-controllers-dvs-use/
