It was already dark by the time Thaddeus made their way back onboard the shift, somehow managing to shrug off Magni at some point too. It would be easier to patch themselves up before they went to relay the ‘mission’ to Jax anyhow. Opening the door to their quarters, they were surprised to find the lantern lit and Jasper fiddling about with their trinkets. Making eye contact with him, they paused for a minute with an airy laugh escaping them. “Um... you weren’t supposed to see me like this,” they replied, gesturing to the cut on their forehead and the blood that was no doubt on their face. “Sorry.”

The news of the intruder’s capture reached all of the crew before midnight, but Adeline didn’t find the resolve to go and speak to him then. Even the next morning it seemed like more of a nuisance than a use, especially seeing as how the others weren’t seeming to get answers out of him thus far. Nevertheless, she still agreed to help keep watch over him.

She was making her way down the second flight of stairs for her scheduled shift, her hand almost permanently affixed to her rapier. The night before had made Adeline a bit too jumpy for comfort, so the sudden sound of footsteps coming from the storage room made her flinch. The sight of Jasper made her relax, though. “Oh... it’s you. I thought I was going to be the unlucky one to catch him trying to run rampant again for a second.”

Somewhere between their mid morning reading and organizing the new supplies from Port Royal, Thaddeus had managed to miss lunch entirely. Rather than try to bother Jasper, they set out to bake a bit of bread and call it at that. They’d helped their mother make some on a few occasions as they grew up, but it had apparently been too long in the past to call upon muscle memory. It seemed like a half an hour had past, and the most they had managed to do was coat themself and a great amount of the kitchen in flour. Just as they were starting to clean and give up on their efforts, the cook in question opened the door. Looking up, Thaddeus beamed before remembering the state of the room from their meddling and laughing a bit. “Looks like I’ll be the one apologizing for making a nuisance of myself, doesn’t it...”

In many instances, Thaddeus was the type to say that being ‘over-prepared’ was a myth, but they still spent nearly all of their free time studying medical journals and trying their hand at new tinctures. It was part of the reason why they always seemed to be awake into the small hours of the night. Port visits made this even more likely, as it were. With the others off wandering the town, it gave the doctor time to truly focus—so much so that they didn’t even notice the presence of another person in their quarters until they looked up to grab a pot of ink from the edge of their desk. Finally seeing Jasper, Thaddeus raised a brow at the cook. “Don’t tell me you’ve gotten yourself into trouble,” they mused, looking him over curiously. “Or are you looking to try my hangover cure for once? Most of the others have already stopped by for their helping.”

After waking up alone in their quarters the other morning, Thaddeus was almost too convinced that they’d overstepped their boundaries with Jasper. Of course, they hadn’t really seen much of him since, but that was also partly due to the fact that they had begun avoiding him in a mix of respect for his space and their own general worry about the situation. Even though over a day had passed, they still didn’t expect to have a follow up conversation with the cook any time soon—which is why the news from a fellow crewmate that Jasper did, in fact, want to talk with them was a bit surprising. 

Pacing briefly just beside the doorway to the kitchen, Thaddeus was almost convinced they would have looked psychotic to anyone else who might walk by. They took another deep breath before walking in, almost immediately making eye contact with Jasper. “Oh... hi,” they greeted, lifting their hand in a rather awkward wave. “You wanted to see me?”
