hinata shoyo, 日向 翔陽 .
He wasn’t trying to be nosy, really, Hinata Shoyo tried to give his full undivided attention onto the book his good friend Yachi recommended. But, his eyes couldn’t help wonder over to his left where a girl a few years younger than him, had propped her ipad on the airplane tray.
She paid him no attention, eyes zoned in on the screen — quietly humming along to the music video she downloaded to keep herself entertained.
Hinata was starting to become agitated from sitting on his seat for to long with nothing to do beside wait until they landed in Brazil. It didn’t take long for the young girl to catch onto his interest— unplugging her headphones and shifting the device slightly in his direction to give him a better view of the girl group performing.
He sighed of relief, sending the young girl a grateful smile to which she shrugged her shoulders nonchalantly.
It was towards the end of the music video (nearly 30 seconds before it ended), when his eyes widen in shock at seeing your solo shot. Hinata couldn’t contain the loud gasp that escaped his lips earning the attention of half the strangers sitting around the two of them.
“I know her!” Hinata chirped with bubbling energy, using his fingers to point towards the scene of you. “No you don’t.” The young girl dejected, a frown on her lips as she shook her head at his delusions.
A determined expression settled onto his face, pulling out his phone and clicking on the album that consisted of photos of just the two of you.
Hinata settled on one of his favorites — the two of you were posing in front of a mirror in your bedroom with matching Hello Kitty beanies. Two lovesick smiles on your faces, but he wasn’t staring in the direction of the mirror, his attention focused solemnly on you.
The rest of the flight consisted of the young girl updating him on all of your achievements, while Hinata’s eyes beamed with excitement. You’d made it. You managed to follow your dreams like the two of you promised you would.
All that was left is for Hinata Shoyo to accomplish his dreams of becoming a pro and he could proudly stand by your side.
yachi hitoka, 谷地 仁花 .
it’s your birthday. no matter how hard she tried to move on and forget, Yachi couldn’t bring herself to forget— not even when you left without saying goodbye. she’d woken up at 5 am sharp, her morning alarm blaring with the reminder on the bottom captioned, YN’S BIRTHDAY 🤍.
her lockscreen remained a picture of the two of you, curled into each other’s side on the couch of your living room. you’re smiling in the direct of the camera, a tint of color on your face as Yachi’s pink lips press against your right cheek.
Yachi forces her gaze away from the bright screen, strolling in the direction of the train station, her steps are slow and cautious. she wonders if you’re okay? if you’d been able to pursue your dreams instead of forcing yourself to live by your families’ strict rules.
a sigh slips past her lips, she shoves her phone into her purse and glances around the station surrounding. Yachi’s pink lips part in shock when her brown eyes landed on the ginormous posters of you plastered on the walls heading towards the train.
the large fonts reading: happy y/n day!
some of the posters consisted of sweet messages belonging to your fans. Yachi can feel the tears well up in her eyes, as a smile tugs at the corner of her lips and heart swells with pride. you hadn’t allowed your family to stop you from achieving your dreams. Yachi stares up at the posters of you, a look of admiration and affection embedded in her eyes.
❪ she asked a random stranger to take a picture of her posing in front of the birthday banners ❫
tsukishima kei, 月島 蛍 .
he isn’t the biggest fan of kpop music. now, don’t get Tsukishima wrong he doesn’t hate the genre of music, he just isn’t an avid listener nor would he go out of his way to purchase an album. Usually, when Tsukishima visits his go to music store, he tends to skip past the section titled: kpop.
today is a bit different. his eyes caught onto a smaller version of an album that was placed right next to the larger version. the small versions were the solo versions of a girl group, and right on the cover of the small version Tsukishima saw you.
it didn’t matter that you’d dyed your hair some bright color to fit the concept, or wore false contacts. Tsukishima could recognize the details of your face, anywhere.
not much of your outfit was shown besides a light pink of the collar of your top. you were soft smiling as your finger poked to the side of the album, decorated stickers littering the cover.
his favorite sticker consisted of a pink and green dinosaur curled at each other’s side. Tsukishima chuckled, his head shaking in amusement as he recalled the pink dinosaur plushie you gifted to him. you’d insisted that even if you weren’t together, he’d always have a part of you, while you’d always have a part of him—a green dinosaur plushie.
Tsukishima could never bring himself to be upset with you for leaving without telling him, you declared early on in the relationship of your dreams. dreams, he understood you’d do anything to achieve. he simply hoped you’d eventually return to him.
❪ tsukishima bought your version of the album, along with the group version in hopes of getting more than one photocard of you ❫
yamaguchi tadashi, 山口 忠 .
he’s late. it’s a rare thing for him to be late to events of his family or close friends. Yamaguchi prefers to show up on time or at least 10 minutes before the scheduled time. and, when it comes to his friends’ games, he prefers to get there an 1 hour or at least 30 minutes before— in order to beat the crazy fans.
Yamaguchi ran in the direction of the train station, carefully avoiding the strangers and quickly apologizing to anyone who’d crossed his path. He didn’t give himself a second to relax— at least not until he’d managed to enter the train seconds before the doors closed.
he sighed of relief finding an available seat beside two teenage girls who quietly giggled to each other. Yamaguchi turned his head to face the screen of his phone when his eyes caught a glimpse of a familiar face. there you were, well a photo version of you resting on the back of a teenager girls’ clear phone case.
“uh, excuse me.” Yamaguchi spoke in a nervous tone, silently praying he didn’t freak the girls out. the two girls both turned to look in his direction, eyebrows arched in confusion, probably wondering if they’d done something wrong. “why do you have a picture of her on your phone?”
the two shared a knowing look before giggling, “It’s a photo-card of Y/n, she’s the leader and main vocalist of our favorite girl group, and my bias.” he didn’t hesitate to ask for more information, and both girls’ were more than pleased to convert him into a fan.
as he stepped off of the train, Yamaguchi bid the two girls a farewell ( to which they happily returned ) and immediately searched up the nearest music store to buy a few copies of your groups latest album.
❪ now, he carries a photo of you on the back of his phone ❫
kageyama tobio, 影山 飛雄 .
he remembers the last time he saw you. you waited for him outside of the gym instead of coming inside like you normally did. Kageyama remembers the way your fingers nervously fiddled with the bracelet on your wrist ( the one he gifted you ), something you only did when you were nervous.
he could never forget the way you’d kiss him that night, like you were trying to memorize the way he felt. nor could he forget the way your arms seemed to tighten around his waist— as if you were scared he’d disappear. you whispered a quiet, “soon,” before rushing inside your house leaving him on your front lawn with rosy tinted cheeks.
Kageyama spent an entire year wondering where’d you gone, if you thought about him the same way he thought about you? he hoped one day your paths would cross.
it seemed today would be the day. the heavens decided to bless him with answers to his questions. you were standing a few feet away from him talking to his teammate Hoshiumi—who insisted on being your biggest fan. you, along with his team were gathered to do an ad for a sports company.
while, everyone greeted you with warm smiles and soft greeting, Kageyama watched from a far with a dazed expression on his face. a smile tugged at the corner of his lips watching you bounce on your feet as you excitedly spoke to his teammate. and to think he’d originally planned on declining since Kageyama wasn’t the most natural in front of a camera.
if his manager wasn’t so persistent, Kageyama would’ve missed his second chance at seeing you. he knew from this moment on he wouldn’t be letting you slip from his fingers again.

Pt.2, Pt.3, Pt.4, Pt.5, Pt.6 & Pt.7
daichi sawamura
ఌ This man can hide his feelings very well.
ఌ There's no difference in how he treats you compared to how he treats others, is just more attentive and protective with you.
ఌ I'm not going to say that he watches you from the distance, sooo let's say that he admires you from the distance, that's... that's sounds better.
ఌ He's shy about his feelings, so very often he doesn't know how to approach you, cause the last thing he wants is for there to be awkwardness between you two, but he doesn't turn down the opportunities to be by your side.
ఌ Is afraid of being confused your friendship with something more.
sugawara koushi
ఌ No special treatment for you, even if his heart goes out of his chest, he doesn't treats you different just for being his crush.
ఌ Is not afraid to make the first move, wether for work or study together, even spending breaks together.
ఌ If see that you've insecurities, he won't hesitate to scold you for that. Deep down, he expects you to do the same for him.
ఌ If yours hands touch for accident, the sensation will last all day, like a burn.
ఌ Invites you to lunch whenever he can, if you like the spicy food, you two share the food, but if you don't like that, he makes sure that even the smell doesn't bother you.
asahi azumane
ఌ Overthinking all the time, mainly cause he doesn't want the rumors about him drag you down.
ఌ Even if his heart is about to blow, he feels calm and comfort around you.
ఌ He wouldn't know how to react to a compliment from you, his shyness only allows him to say: "thank you" or "you too".
ఌ Please, please, pleaseeeeee play with his hair, he doesn't say it out loud, but he's dying for you to do it, he could melt in your hands all day if you did.
ఌ Helps you to choose yours outfits whether for go out on a date with him or with your friends (in that case he'll choose an outfit more casual, he can't help but feel jealousy, looks like Jesus but it's not him, sorry not sorry).
shimizu kiyoko
ఌ This queen remembers your favorite drinks and snacks.
ఌ The special treatment non exist, impossible, nah uh.
ఌ HEAR ME OUT!!! she's capable of singing when you're around her, cause she feels comfortable, but only do this when you two are alone.
ఌ Maybe she lets you make her hair, I feel like she needs to in real confidence with her crush for something like that happen.
ఌ She wants to be honest about how she feels, but the words won't come out of her mouth.
tanaka ryuunosuke
ఌ I mean...please... We already see him in the anime, but I'll also add a few points.
ఌ When are the two of you, he's a calm person, keep having that characteristic energy, but try to make it confortable for both of you.
ఌ Ready to jump in a fight for you, also he's ready to make you laugh, cause for him there's no something better that see and hear your laugh.
ఌ If you feel bad and he's not with you, he would ask if you want him to come to your house. But if he's actually with you, he won't hesitate to reassure you, his energetic personality changes and is more careful with the things he says or does.
ఌ If you mention that you have an ideal type and he doesn't fit the standards, he's not going to fall apart, he'll show you that he's better.
ఌ Whenever possible, he accompanies you home, when he can't for the practice, the first message you'll see in your inbox will be from him, asking if you arrived safely.
nishinoya yuu
ఌ Constant words of encouragement, for him there's no one better than you.
ఌ Being with you he's purely peace, just enjoy the company, every minute together is invaluable.
ఌ Constantly invites you to come see him at practice and games, everytime you visit him, oh Lord, his energy goes from 100% to 500%.
ఌ If you feel bad, he's ready to make you laugh, but when he's not with you and you tell him how you feeling, you'll only receive a message that says: "I'm out of your house".
ఌ He gives you the most brilliant smiles, literally he see you and his face glow up, you can even see that sparkle in his eyes.
ennoshita chikara
ఌ Similar to Daichi in that he doesn't know how to approach to you.
ఌ He would be very patient with you (Tanaka and Noya are jealous of you) when studying together.
ఌ Automatically relaxes when he see your smile, is like all the weight in his shoulders just *puff* disappear.
ఌ Share some of his readings with you, if you read by his side, the last thing he'll do is read, poor guy, he'll be on the Moon.
ఌ Although on the outside it may seem that he maintains his composure, deep down is a jelly that wobbles all the time is by your side. It's as if he even takes care of how he breathes when he's around you.
tsukishima kei
ఌ Frustrated, irritated, he can't believe that one simple greeting from you make him tense. Even for Yamaguchi it's hard not to laugh at his friend's reactions.
ఌ Even id you're his crush, it won't save you from being teased. He wouldn't miss the chance to annoy you, if you respond quickly and with the tone sassy as him, he'll just roll his eyes and carry on with what he's doing, but he'll have a little silly smile on his face that you'll never see unless you return his feelings.
ఌ Although it goes unnoticed by most people, except for the others in first year (Hinata, Kageyama, Yamaguchi and Yachi), his gaze softens when he talks to you.
ఌ At first, he would try to keep contact with you a minimum (this is common in people who find it difficult to trust others or have low self-esteem), but if you still show genuine interest and stay by his side while respecting his space, this guy is the type who falls hard.
ఌ Easily remember your preferences, may seem like his not paying attention when you talk to him, but he's just avoiding the eye contact 'cause he hate the feeling of vulnerability that you make him feel. But don't worry, his attention is completely yours.
ఌ He would let you call him "Kei"
yamaguchi tadashi
ఌ My precious boy, just returning your greeting make him nervous, obviously Tsukishima would soon start teasing him.
ఌ He doesn't know how compliment you for two reasons, 1: the words won't come out of his mouth and 2: he doesn't want to make uncomfortable with something he might say.
ఌ He has the constant thought and fear that you might be more interested in Tsukishima cause he's more "cool". If you tell him that he's really cool, he'll have a smile on his face for the rest of the day.
ఌ If you're in some club or practice some sport, he would be your biggest fan.
ఌ He keeps small souvenirs from their outings, school work meetings, etc. In addition to the occasional photo in his locker that they took together.
kageyama tobio
ఌ His natural reaction when he thinks of you to frown, the others believes he gets angry for no apparent reason. Even Hinata is frightened to think that he did something to suddenly upset him.
ఌ He's very respectful when he talks to you, greeting you with a bow, use appropriate language, the poor guy would be very tense that he doesn't know what to do.
ఌ When I say that he doesn't know what to do, is cause he really doesn't know, he has any idea of how to start a conversation with you without talk of volleyball o just give you short answers.
ఌ Take advantage of exams as an excuse for you to help him study so he can spend time with you.
ఌ If you show interest in his club and passion for volleyball, he would invite you to occasional practice, very shy.
ఌ He goes with his senpais for advice.
hinata shouyou
ఌ He doesn't know that he has a crush on you, just feels that you're someone very special and he wasn't to lose you.
ఌ When he discovers this crush on you, his face always glow in red when he see you or talk to you.
ఌ He asking you for help in the study, but you don't finish doing it because he got frustrated because he didn't understand or because he asked for a break that never ended until he went home.
ఌ He teaches you a few things about volleyball so you can play with him. If you don't want to, then he teaches you some tricks or exercises he learned in training to impress you.
ఌ He makes sure you get home safely, sometimes taking you home on his bike or simply he walks by your side meanwhile you talk about anything.
yachi hitoka
ఌ LET HER BREATH!! Her brain can't function properly every time she sees you.
ఌ Same as Hinata, her face torn red whenever you two talk.
ఌ Search for advice on Kiyoko, but she almost died when Kiyoko told her she has to be honest about her feelings.
ఌ You two work together on scholar projects and study together too.
ఌ If you give her some compliment, her face torn red and, like Asahi, the embarrassment doesn't let her talk.
ukai keishin
ఌ He chats with you when you're at the cash and he dgaf that there's a line of customers waiting to pay.
ఌ Coincidentally, there are always discounts on the days you go shopping.
ఌ Can't pay right now? Don't worry, you can pay later, he can't go mad with his favorite customer.
ఌ Whenever he smokes, if you don't like cigarettes, he avoids blowing smoke in your direction and tries not to let the smell linger on him. But if you like smoking, then he shares his cigarette with you.
ఌ When you visit him during his volleyball classes, he tries to behave like the good coach he is, even though he wants to kill the boys for the questions they ask about the two of you.
takeda ittetsu
ఌ This angel gift you his best smile when he arrives and leaves.
ఌ If he doesn't meet your standards, he will prove to you that he is the best option. HE WAS ABLE TO CONVINCE UKAI, MIYAGI'S TEAM AND NEKOMATA TO BELIEVE IN HIS KARASUNO BOYS. DO YOU THINK HE WON'T BE ABLE TO CONVINCE YOU?!
ఌ He's very attentive with you, always making sure you're comfortable when you are together.
ఌ He can't help but smile nervously every time he sees you during the day.
ఌ His heart skips a beat when he sees you interacting with the boys of the club. He adores them, so please treat them with the same affection he does.
I already enjoy writing these headcanons and I hope you enjoy reading them, soon I'll bring the second part, ehe.
you’re half-asleep on the couch, blanket tucked under your belly, the dim glow of the tv washing soft light across the room. kinoshita thinks you’re out cold—your breathing is slow, your eyes closed, your hand resting protectively where the baby kicks now and then.
that’s when he leans forward.
very quietly.
very carefully.
like he’s approaching something sacred.
he places his hand on your belly, thumb brushing the fabric of your shirt, and whispers so softly it’s almost a secret meant for only two people in the whole world.
“hey, little one… it’s me.”
you nearly melt on the spot.
his voice is gentle, quieter than you’ve ever heard it, trembling slightly like he’s shy even though nobody’s awake to hear him.
“um… i hope you had a good day in there,” he continues. “your mom was amazing today. she’s been amazing every day. i’m… trying my best to be good for both of you.”
you bite your lip, pretending to stay asleep.
he shifts closer, resting his forehead against your stomach like he needs the closeness.
“i’m excited to meet you,” he murmurs. “i’m scared too. but… i’ll be there. always. i promise.”
your heart squeezes.
he hesitates, then laughs under his breath—soft, nervous, warm.
“i don’t know if you can hear me,” he whispers, “but i hope you’ll know my voice when you’re born. i hope i make you feel safe.”
and then—
a kick.
right under his palm.
kinoshita freezes like he’s been struck by lightning.
“oh,” he breathes, eyes widening. “you… heard me?”
you can’t help it—you open your eyes a little, just enough to see him staring at your belly with absolute wonder. like the world just shifted. like he wasn’t prepared for something this small to feel this big.
“that was you?” he whispers. “for me?”
his voice cracks. you close your eyes again so he doesn’t see the way yours are getting wet too.
he leans down, presses a kiss to your belly—slow, gentle, reverent.
“i love you,” he murmurs. “both of you.”
your chest aches with how soft he is.
you let your hand drift into his hair, stroking lightly.
his head shoots up, startled. “you’re awake?”
you smile, sleepy and warm. “i’ve been awake.”
he’s bright red instantly.
“please tell me you didn’t hear—”
“all of it,” you say, threading your fingers through his hair. “and it was perfect.”
kinoshita hides his face in your stomach, embarrassed and glowing all at once.
the baby kicks again.
and he laughs—quiet, breathless, happy.
Narita Kazuhito
pregnancy has turned your body into a weather system with no forecast.
one minute you’re freezing.
the next you’re sweating.
you sit down and your temperature spikes.
you stand up and suddenly you need a blanket.
narita tries to solve this.
tries very, very hard.
at first it’s subtle—he hears you sigh, glances over, and quietly places a blanket on your lap without even looking away from what he’s doing.
then you sigh again.
blanket removed.
fan turned on.
thermostat adjusted.
you raise a brow. “kazuhito, i’m fine.”
he nods. doesn’t believe you for a second.
the next day, he takes it up a level.
you’re watching tv when a small chill runs through you, and before the goosebumps even appear—
he’s already draping a sweater around your shoulders.
“cold?” he asks softly.
“a little,” you admit.
he smiles, proud of himself.
thirty minutes later the sweater is too warm, and you push the sleeves up with a grimace.
narita notices instantly.
he pauses.
thinks.
disappears.
you hear the thermostat beep.
the fan whirs to life.
then, an uncomfortable blanket of warm air settles over the room, and you immediately regret everything.
“kazuhito,” you say slowly, “what… temperature did you put it at?”
he glances over from the hallway, looking overly pleased. “seventy-eight.”
you blink. “sweetheart… that’s… sauna weather.”
his face falls. “oh.”
he rushes back to the thermostat like he’s disarming a bomb.
you laugh, but he’s determined—turning it down to seventy-two, then seventy-four, then seventy-three, then seventy-two again before stepping back with the gravitas of a scientist who has just invented fire.
he turns to you nervously. “is… is that okay?”
you pat the couch beside you, smiling. “come here.”
he sits, still worried he’s messing everything up.
you take his hand, guiding it gently to rest on your belly. “kazuhito,” you whisper, “you don’t have to keep adjusting the whole house.”
he swallows. “i just want you comfortable.”
“i know,” you say, leaning into him, “but the best thing for me… is you.”
his cheeks go pink.
carefully, quietly, he slips an arm around you. the warmth of him settles your body more than any fan or thermostat adjustment could.
you breathe out, content.
and narita finally relaxes, holding you close like he’s found the exact temperature you needed all along.
Tsukishima Kei
tsukishima tries very, very hard to look unbothered.
which is impressive, honestly, considering the fact that he is absolutely spiraling.
he doesn’t say it out loud. he doesn’t even hint at it. but the second you got pregnant, something in him snapped straight into research mode.
that’s how you find him at 3:14 in the morning.
sitting up in bed, glasses low on his nose, laptop glowing against his face, scrolling through an article titled:
“top 27 mistakes new parents make and how to avoid them.”
you rub your eyes. “kei… why are you awake?”
he jumps like he’s been caught watching something illegal.
“nothing.” he slams the laptop halfway shut. “go back to sleep.”
“you’re reading parenting articles.”
“no I’m not.”
you raise a brow. he groans quietly, turning away like the wall is suddenly fascinating.
he waits until you lie back down before reopening the laptop—carefully angling the screen away from you, as if that makes it invisible.
he doesn’t realize you’re still watching him.
the article switches to a video tutorial titled:
“how to hold a newborn without dropping it.”
tsukishima’s jaw tightens. he leans forward like he’s studying rare museum footage.
you bite your lip to hide a smile. “kei… come on. you’re not going to drop the baby.”
he freezes again. “that’s what people say right before they drop things.”
“kei.”
he sighs, long and sharp, shutting the laptop with a soft click.
in the dim quiet, he presses the heels of his palms into his eyes, shoulders tense.
“…I don’t know what I’m doing,” he mutters, voice low and bare in a way he almost never lets slip. “I’ve never… I’m not good with kids. I don’t want to—”
his throat closes around the word.
fail.
he can’t even say it.
you sit up slowly, reaching for his hand. he lets you take it, but he won’t look at you yet.
“kei,” you whisper softly, “you don’t have to know everything right now.”
he swallows hard. “I should.”
“why?”
his voice cracks—just a little.
“because I want to be good for them. and for you.” he looks away sharply, cheeks pink with embarrassment. “I don’t want to… mess anything up.”
your heart twists.
you guide his hand gently toward your belly, where the baby has been shifting lightly under your skin.
“they already love you,” you say.
he scoffs quietly. “you can’t know that.”
and then—
a kick.
right against his palm.
tsukishima goes absolutely still.
everything in him softens at once, the fear, the tension, the sharp edges he uses to protect himself. his eyes fall shut, and he lets out a tiny breath, almost disbelieving.
“oh,” he whispers.
another kick.
this one firmer, like the baby is responding to him specifically.
a shaky laugh slips out of him—quiet, stunned, completely real.
he leans down, forehead brushing your shoulder as if the contact steadies him. “that was… for me,” he says, almost to himself.
“yeah,” you murmur. “for you.”
he stays like that for a long moment, hand warm on your belly, face buried against you like he’s trying not to fall apart.
when he finally speaks, it’s barely audible.
“I’ll figure it out,” he says. “I don’t care how much I have to read. I’ll learn everything. I’ll be good. I promise.”
you kiss the top of his head.
“you already are.”
tsukishima pretends he’s unaffected.
but he doesn’t reopen the laptop.
instead, he lies down carefully beside you, arm around your stomach, eyes soft in the dark—like the fear is still there, but love is louder.
Yamaguchi Tadashi
the first time you get a leg cramp, yamaguchi panics so hard he nearly drops his phone.
the second time, he panics slightly less.
the third time… he starts taking notes.
you don’t notice it at first. he’s subtle about it—quiet little taps on his phone after you wince, a quick glance at the clock, a soft hum that sounds suspiciously like recording data.
you catch him one night when you sigh and rub your lower back.
he immediately flinches, grabs his phone, and starts typing at lightning speed.
your eyes narrow. “tadashi… what are you doing?”
he freezes like a deer caught in headlights.
“n-nothing,” he squeaks.
you raise a brow. “tadashi.”
he swallows hard and slowly turns the screen toward you, like he’s confessing a crime.
the notes app reads:
cramp patterns
time: 8:47 pm
location: lower back
severity: medium??
hydration level: maybe low??
room temp: slightly cold?
solution attempt #14 pending
you blink. “baby… what is this?”
his shoulders slump as he fidgets with the phone. “i just… i don’t like when you’re in pain. so I thought maybe if I tracked everything, I could figure out what causes it. or prevent it. or—”
“solve pregnancy?” you tease gently.
he goes red. “no—! i just…” his voice softens. “i want to help. and i don’t always know how. so i thought if i paid attention, i could… be better.”
your heart melts instantly.
you cup his cheek with one hand, guiding him closer. “tadashi, you’re already helping more than you realize.”
he blinks, eyes a little shiny. “i am?”
“yes.” you take the phone from his hand, set it aside, and lace your fingers together. “you don’t have to predict everything. you don’t have to fix everything. you being here is enough.”
a small, shaky sigh leaves him, his forehead lowering to rest against yours.
“i just hate seeing you uncomfortable,” he whispers. “i wish I could take it from you.”
you kiss him softly. “you do. every time you hold me. every time you touch me. every time you care.”
his eyes go gentle, warm, a little overwhelmed.
“okay,” he murmurs. “then… i’ll keep caring.”
you laugh. “i know you will.”
the baby gives a tiny kick under your ribs, and yamaguchi’s expression brightens with awe—like even the littlest movement is a blessing he’s lucky to witness.
“maybe…” he says quietly, cheeks pinking, “maybe that was a thank you.”
“for what?”
he squeezes your hand.
“for loving you.”
Yachi Hitoka
morning sickness hits you before the sun is even up.
you’re on your knees in front of the toilet, forehead against your arm, body shaking as another wave rolls through you. it’s awful, messy, miserable — but the worst part isn’t the nausea. it’s the guilt.
because you can hear yachi rushing around the apartment.
the faucet runs. the cabinet opens. her slippers shuffle back and forth like she’s trying to be everywhere at once.
“babe?” her voice is tiny, worried. “are you okay? do you need water? ginger tea? crackers? a cold washcloth? …all of them?”
you groan weakly. “i’m sorry.”
there’s a loud, horrified gasp.
“what? why would you say that? no— no, no, don’t apologize—”
she’s on her knees beside you instantly, hands shaking a little as she smooths your hair back. she looks like she’s about to cry just seeing you like this.
“you didn’t do anything wrong,” she whispers, voice wobbling. “you’re literally growing our baby. your body is doing so much. you’re not allowed to apologize for that.”
you spit, wince, and lean back against the wall, drained. she immediately brings the cold washcloth to your forehead, her thumb brushing your cheek with the gentlest touch in the world.
“i hate that you’re seeing me like this,” you murmur.
yachi shakes her head so fast her hair flies. “don’t say that. i’m supposed to see you like this. i want to take care of you. that’s part of being the one who loves you.”
you try to laugh, but it comes out tired. “i’m disgusting right now.”
“you’re beautiful,” she says without missing a beat.
you snort. “hitoka. i’m literally covered in—”
“beautiful,” she repeats louder, red-cheeked but dead serious.
she helps you stand, her hand firm at your waist even though she’s trembling. she guides you to the sink, helps you rinse your mouth, wipes your face gently like you’re something delicate, precious.
when you finally settle on the edge of the bathtub, she kneels in front of you, both hands on your knees.
“listen,” she says softly, “if you want to complain, complain. if you want to cry, cry. if you want to throw up on me, throw up on me. i don’t care. i just don’t ever want you to apologize for being pregnant. not to me.”
your throat tightens.
she rests her head lightly on your knee, her voice small but steady.
“i’m here. for every hard thing. every gross thing. every morning like this. you’re never doing this alone.”
you reach down and cup her cheek, and she leans into your hand instantly, eyes fluttering shut like she’s soaking in the moment.
“i love you,” you whisper.
her eyes open — soft, warm, overflowing.
“i love you more,” she says, “and i’m going to go make you toast now. but not burnt this time. i promise. probably.”
you laugh for real this time, and she beams — relieved you don’t cry — not fully — but your eyes sting, and when she sees it, she smiles softly and squeezes your knee.
“come lie down,” she says, helping you up with gentle hands. “i’ll sit with you until you feel better.”
and she does — curled at your side, whispering little comforts, staying with you through every wave until the morning finally softens around you both.
Hinata Shōyō
hinata gets what he calls “a genius idea,” which is always your warning sign.
you walk into the nursery and nearly trip over a roll of paper taller than you are. hinata is on the floor, tongue poking out in concentration, sketching something furiously with an orange marker.
“shōyō… what is this?”
he looks up, eyes sparkling. “the height chart!”
“for who?”
“the baby!”
you stare. “the baby who is currently… inside me?”
“yup!” he beams. “they’re growing soooo fast, so I thought—why wait until they’re born? we can track their growth NOW.”
you have approximately six questions, but he’s already unrolling the rest of the paper and taping it to the wall with the excitement of someone setting up Olympic decorations.
on the giant sheet, there’s a line labeled:
“week 24: baby is THIS big!!!”
followed by a very enthusiastic doodle of a bean with legs.
beneath that:
“week 25: bigger bean!!”
then:
“week 26: future spiker!!!”
you choke on a laugh. “shōyō, they’re not going to come out hitting cross-court.”
“not with that attitude!” he says, pointing dramatically at your belly. “right, baby? you’re gonna have HOPS.”
then he grabs a marker, runs over to you, and gently places your hand on your bump.
“can you stand here?” he asks, eyes sparkling. “I need you for scale.”
“for scale,” you repeat, deadpan.
“yes!” he says, completely serious. “otherwise how will we know how big they are compared to you?”
you’re trying to hold in your laughter as you stand beside the paper. hinata squats, comparing the doodles to your stomach, nodding thoughtfully like a scientist analyzing rare data.
“okay,” he says at last, marker hovering. “i think they’re… THIS big now.”
he draws a scribbly oval with tiny limbs.
the baby kicks.
hinata freezes.
then his entire face lights up like the sun swallowed him whole.
“BABE DID YOU SEE THAT???” he explodes, bouncing on his toes. “THEY AGREED. THEY APPROVED. THEY LIKE THE CHART.”
he presses both hands to your belly, practically vibrating. “hi, baby! did you see your drawing? you like it? i’ll make you another one next week!”
another kick.
hinata’s eyes go glossy.
“oh my god,” he whispers, voice softening. “they’re really getting bigger.”
you smooth a hand through his hair. “that’s the whole point.”
he smiles up at you, warm and teary-eyed and in absolute awe of the growing life he already loves more than he knows how to say.
“yeah,” he murmurs, kissing your belly. “and I get to watch every little bit of it.”
Kageyama Tobio
kageyama insists he sleeps fine.
and technically, he does fall asleep easily—head hits the pillow, done.
but staying asleep? yeah… no.
he thinks you don’t notice.
but every night, without fail, you feel the mattress shift around midnight.
then again around 2 a.m.
and again at 4.
the first time, you assumed he was just restless.
the second time, you opened one eye and caught him hovering over you like a confused guardian angel.
the third time… you pretended to stay asleep, just to see what he’d do.
because apparently, kageyama doesn’t “wake up.”
he checks on you.
quietly. awkwardly. intensely.
he adjusts your pillow with the gentlest, most delicate touch like you’re made of clouds.
he pulls the blanket up to your shoulders if he thinks you might be cold.
he moves your water bottle closer when he realizes you shift like you might be thirsty.
he even tilts your head a little if your breathing changes—very carefully—like you’re a baby bird he’s trying not to disturb.
tonight you decide to catch him.
he sits up again around 3:12 a.m., rubs a hand over his face, then turns toward you, leaning over to check your blanket like he’s inspecting an injured teammate.
you open your eyes.
“tobio,” you whisper.
he yelps.
actually yelps.
“i—I wasn’t doing anything,” he rushes, hands flying back like they’re under arrest. “you were sleeping. i wasn’t—I was just—”
you raise a brow. “you adjust the blanket every time I move.”
“no I don’t.”
“you also check if my water’s close.”
“that’s—i mean—you should drink—pregnancy means—hydration is—”
“and you stare at my belly like it's going to get up and walk away.”
he turns bright red.
“i’m just… making sure,” he mutters, rubbing the back of his neck. “you sigh sometimes. or you get too warm. or you look uncomfortable. i don’t want you to—i don’t know—hurt? or something.”
you reach for his hand. “tobio… you’re allowed to care out loud.”
he swallows hard. “i’m not trying to be weird.”
“you’re not. you’re sweet.”
he flinches at the compliment like you physically threw it at him.
“i’m just checking,” he mumbles, quieter now. “the baby’s in there. you’re here. i don’t wanna miss anything.”
you guide his hand to rest gently on your belly, both of you lying in the soft dark.
the baby kicks.
firm, clear, unmistakable.
kageyama goes stiff.
his fingers tremble where they touch your skin.
“that—” his voice cracks. “that was—”
“for you,” you whisper.
he doesn’t speak.
he just presses his forehead softly against yours, breath shaky, eyes closing as he lets the moment sink in.
“…i’ll keep checking,” he finally whispers, embarrassed and sincere. “just so you’re both okay.”
you smile, brushing your thumb along his jaw.
“we’re more than okay.”
kageyama tries to act unaffected…
but he doesn’t let go of your belly again until he falls asleep like that—
arm wrapped around you, hand protecting the life he already loves.
This was sitting in my notes for the past 3 years and I suddenly felt inspired to complete it because I have to procrastinate on my work lol. Some charas are repeated because I can see them doing both.
