Converted 1759 schoolhouse in New Milford, CT has 2bds, 2ba, 1,210sqft, $639k. I think it has a bit of an industrial loft vibe.

I like that the living room area has an original fireplace. Of course, they painted it pale gray, and it has industrial style lighting and a metal staircase.

I like these doors that open to a deck. I wonder if those chairs came with the hens or if they put them on. Love the vintage tin-top table, too.

This is so cute- they made a little desk behind a small sliding industrial style door.

Bath #1 on the 1st floor is a lovely shower room with subway tile.

The corner kitchen is quite nice, especially the casual counter seating. The black cabinets are very nice, too.

They've got a "mind the gap" sign on the bottom step. I'm wondering if these are death stairs. How big is this gap? I can't really tell.

It's nice up here. I like that they made a family room and it has a beautiful skylight.

Behind the sliding doors, there's a lovely laundry room and the 2nd bath.

It appears that this ladder goes up to a sleep loft, which would be the 2nd bedroom.

The yard is lovely.

This deck on the back of the house is right off the dining area. It has a great pergola.

Then they've got a gravel patio seating area down in the yard.

Cute garden shed looks like a mini-barn. The property is 0.63 acre, so I would imagine that it extends thru the gate.

And, here they've got a little greenhouse and garden.

Look at the potential here. This little building can be a guest house or a great studio.

my great grandmother lives in a very old house. It was converted from an old one room school house, on a hill, with few neighbors nearby. She's surrounded by farmland, mostly corn & wheat fields,with bits of forest between the properties.

Her house is my favorite place on Earth but it's also a little spooky.

As I mentioned, she lives on a hill. A big, steep, isolated hill. The main way up or down is heavily wooded,and it's the only paved way up the hill. I always feared driving down at night. I would always see things in the dark woods, and I would pray that the car wouldn't break down or that we wouldn't hit anything.

Honestly any of the wooded areas feel hostile after dark, if you don't have a fire burning. Just the walk from her door to the car would have my hair standing on end, because I felt eyes watching me from inside the trees.

I also used to feel the presence of... others. There. Sometimes it was my great grandfather checking on her- he died when I was very young. His presence wasn't as unsettling. But the other one(s) were.

There were closets in the main dining room, and they always made me uncomfortable. I would have nightmares about this woman bursting out of one to yell at me. I couldn't be in that room alone for a very long time because I was afraid I'd see her while I was awake. I also always felt uneasy in the bathroom, the basement doorway, and when sitting too high up on the loft stairs (there was never enough seats for everyone during Christmas breakfast so some of us would sit on the loft stairs)

A short walk away from her house, there was the remains of a burned down barn. I only saw it once. The light was weird near it, purple-y and just..wrong. it made me uneasy, and when I looked closer i saw blankets & stuff that looked too new, too clean, to be there. I felt like I was being watched there, and when me and Dad drove farther into the nearby woods (he was showing me all the places him & my uncle would hang out in as kids)

Grandma Ann's house is & always will be my favorite place, but its also a little creepy & a little bit...liminal.

How cute is this? A little ivy-covered 1900 schoolhouse in Waupaca, WI. 2bds, 1ba, $224,900.

This is nice- with all the artifacts on the walls, it reminds me of an art gallery or museum.

It's pretty big, too. Look at the built-in shelf.

Since I looked at this converted 1889 schoolhouse this morning, it's gone under contract. Located in Delaware Twp., NJ, it has 1bd, 1ba, 2,208 sq ft, and is priced at $300k. The current owner is also an avid collector.

Yowzuh! That's a lot of stuff.

So, there's a wood stove in the middle of the room. It does have radiators for heat. The former schoolhouse has an open floor plan and in 1913, it was turned into a 2 room schoolhouse.

Shelving all along this outer wall. Nice place for plants.

Nice old style pool table that is now a laundry table. I like that old pool table lamp.

The kitchen cabinets are in rough shape. The bottom doors are peeling, and the panel is falling off the dishwasher, so maybe it needs to be replaced.

It's hard to see with all the stuff, but the cabinetry is definitely falling apart.

The single bedroom is pretty big, b/c it's the addition that they added in 1913. Look at the fabric thang on the ceiling.

You can see the old school bell tower in the middle of the roof.

This is the more country part of NJ. I live in the metropolitan area across the bridge from NYC. Depends on what you prefer.

This is too cute. It's a little converted former 1 room schoolhouse built in 1806 and owned by an artist in Hancock, Vermont. It has 2bd 1ba and is only $299K.

I must say that this is a very roomy place - look at the size of the kitchen/living area. Love the beams, too.

This cute 1912 one room schoolhouse in St. John’s, Michigan is the chicest conversion I’ve ever seen. It’s for sale for $249,200.

The stripped it down to the original tin ceiling and painted it black, refinished the original wood floors, and exposed the brick.

Today we saw a school bus and here’s a schoolhouse. An 1868 schoolhouse conversion just dropped in Owego, New York for a reasonable $292K. It’s fascinating to see the different visions people have for these conversions. This  one is beautiful.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen formal, custom made draperies paired with contemporary leather furniture. 

I was hoping that the brick structure was a fireplace, but it’s not.

Dining area beside the kitchen has panels in the doors that tie in w/the tapestry above.

There are 3 bedrooms. This is the main one.

In just 858 square feet, John & Jason’s happy 1840s schoolhouse features at least a dozen paint colors, just as many patterned fabrics and wallpapers, and ample antiques behind its yellow door. 

The entry is so pretty.  “This entryway may be small, but it says you have arrived," says Jason, who picked the pastel paint colors from the floral wallpaper.

In the kitchen, John and Jason removed the drop ceiling and installed tongue-and-groove rafters, now swathed in a dreamy shade of blue.

The kitchen combines a classically country wallpaper featuring milk jugs and teacups with the sleek black cabinets and concrete island.

The vibrant turquoise on the trim and beams echoes the blue-greens in the entry's floral wallpaper.

What's hiding in that cabinet? "It's another bar!" says Jason. "We open the cabinet and let the good times roll."

When John and Jason do do white, it's in a high-gloss, as seen on the stairs.

In this low-pitched room, John and Jason carved out every inch of space with built-ins.
