this gets freaky real fast so buckle up

so i just started a new job at an amazon sortation center and guys……… the freaking- okay first lemme explain the process.

i’m not totally sure how the packages get put on the line but there is a big round conveyor belt that is raised like 12 feet? off the ground. point is it’s really high. from there, there’s like 100 chutes on the right side of the loop that i work on. the belt sorts the packages down the chute it’s supposed to go in, and then i scan the barcode on the package, take the package to the respective pallet, and then scan the pallet to tell the system it’s there now. once a pallet reaches a certain height, i have to wrap it with what is essentially a giant roll of saran wrap.

guys. the conveyor belt. had me feeling things.

maybe it’s the sound of the motors humming, or the pattern of section after section speeding by as the belt rotates, or maybe even it’s the sheer fucking size of the thing. it was almost erotic the way it was all so.. efficient. the mechanical *ffvwp* of the sorting machine on the belt that pushes each package down their chute, the metallic creak of doors opening to let the packages onto the line…

there was also this? section? on the left side of the belt that had some kind of partially see thru housing and a bright red light that cycled on and off that REALLY got me going. i can’t explain it, it was so bright and pure red it was so so beautiful.

it actually reminded me a lot of the manufacturing part of aperture, like the turret building/testing and even the redemption line in portal 2. this video does a good job of capturing an ambience that’s very similar to the one at my facility.

the efficiency of the whole process had me blushing, and not just because it’s hot as the devil’s ass crack in there.

this could just be because it’s ovulation week but fuckin hell this is a dream job for a mechanical objectum like me. (also getting to sort and organize shit is pretty amazing)
