The Police Precinct was always a dangerous place to visit considering who Chanel worked for. She was taking a risk when she was in the area let alone walking in to the building. Yet that was exactly what she was doing.
Payroll was not exactly under Chanel’s umbrella of things she needed to worry about, but the people on payroll certainly were. And while the names and numbers that fell under Costello payroll weren’t necessarily written down anywhere, for safety reasons, Chanel made it a habit of hers to check in on them every now and then. Better her than the guys with murder in their eyes and a need to be tough all the time. Those guys were sent in later if Chanel suspected any wavering in their loyalty.
Visiting the precinct had been easy enough the first time she did it. It was before she was publicly known as the Costello Publicist. Instead it was when she was an assistant and had her face more in the shadows than the spotlights. She’d been able to establish a relationship with the police force by visiting Police Support Charity events, and dropping off baked goods she pretended had been made by herself. Now her routine checkups were just another pleasant visit from the beautiful Chanel Albright, who just happened to be working for a family that the police (the ones who weren’t crooked) had their eyes on.
It was as she was leaving the building that a familiar office caught her eye. He’d been at one of the charity events she’d been sure to attend, even having flirted with him for a good portion of the night. She’d been seeing if there were any other viable police officers to add to their payroll, but had felt that having too many would be cause for suspicion for the others. Instead, Liam had become a friendly face that could still potentially be a contender somewhere down the line should the Costellos need it. At least, that’s what she thought.
“Hey you. Are you just getting off or just coming in? I left a basket of muffins at the front desk if you’re starting.”
