Dear Sarah, Lovely, thank you for all the fun. I won't say I regret a single second of it-- well, maybe one or two. All that aside, I'm rather glad I got the chance to know you. My parents are dragging me home after the events of homecoming, so, hey... make a little mischief for me, all right? --Holly
Sarah wasn’t going to cry. She wasn’t going to cry. It was just so…unfair that Holly had to leave. Sarah felt like they had just been getting to know each other, and for the first time, she was really starting to understand what Aunt Mary meant when she was going on about how a coven was closer than any relationship mortals could define. Because it wasn’t about blood relationships. It was about choosing people with whom you shared a greater mission.
Admittedly, Sarah hadn’t known Holly for very long, but she privately thought she was pretty great.
“Holly, you would have been a wicked witch,” she said forlornly, clutching the letter to her chest, “and I’ll always leave a space open in the circle for you.” Witches of the Salem Tradition typically opened their rites while standing in a circular formation, with each member of the coven taking their designated place. Sarah hoped one day that Holly would come back and fill the empty place she’d left behind…
“In the meantime, though…” Sarah trailed off, a dark glint in her eyes, “I will cause way more than just mischief. They’ll pay for taking you away. They’ll pay.” With that, she tossed the letter into the fireplace, watching as the parchment burned to ash.
