Diodoros had opted to sleep in his old room the night the veil fell, and he’d called into work the following day. Family emergency, was the excuse that he had used, but it was only a short delay until he officially put in for the LOA that he was going to take until their mother was awake again. Until then, he was going to look after her and make sure that she was strong enough to help repair the veil. Diodoros had no indeed what magic would be needed, or how they would access it, but the only way he could manage to deal with the fact that he had just Rion for a second time, was to busy himself with finding a way to bring his lover back. This was not the end, he refused, and no matter what anyone told him, he would never accept it.
He could not help but replay the conversation he’d had with his mother over and over again. ‘Your memories shape you, help you become who you are. Without them, how will you know what is right and wrong?’ He had felt her every moment of his life, in the breeze, in the air, in the fire that burned within him. It was gone now, and still Diodoros felt his mother’s presence, maybe he was not birthed from her womb, but every bit of him knew that he was always meant to be hers, and he would do whatever it took to hear her voice once again. ‘This town is cursed. We’re all cursed.’ If that was true, then Diodoros would break that curse.
His mind was in a million places as he stood in front of the stove, eyes blank as he stared at the wall. Diodoros sniffed once, then twice, what’s burning? He asked himself before he suddenly remembered what he was doing. “Fuck.” The ex-witch uttered under his breath as he pulled the pancakes from the pan at least twenty second too late. He turned sheepishly towards the pair of siblings sat at the breakfast table, Levi and Ava, Diodoros had insisted on making breakfast, and he’d royally fucked that up already. “Um, who likes burnt pancakes?”
