Sally barked. Then she howled. Ban, groggy, sat up in bed. Light poured in through the bedroom window. Sally kept barking but Ban blinked blearily to see what time it was. 11 in the morning? Had he... oh. He must have fallen asleep.
Usually, Ban didn’t leave Sally outside when he was asleep. She must have gone out and wandered around behaving herself long enough for Ban to fall asleep. He sighed and grabbed the phone off the hook as he walked to the front door. Sure enough, Sally stood at the bottom of the big ash tree to the right of the porch barking at a big black cat hissing from a high branch.
“Hey, Mini?” Ban said when she picked up the phone. “Your cat’s here.”
