I now crave the cracking of the Gem!Reader the whole shabang! Robert? Going through it. Z-Team? Freaking out. Medical? Trying to figure out how to fix them. I need it all I need the angst; I need the reader to realize their own mortality and say to Robert "I don't want to die" just to REALLY dig the knife in them... I promise I'll eventually ask fluffy prompts... eventually...

Now i absolutely love this ask, im a sucker for the angst (until i realise that means actual angst and I cry😃) so many possibilities and my hands are rubbing like a glutinous little creature
See if we go at the angle of Gem!Reader being a pearl then healing powers that only work on organic matter would work on her as pearls are an organic material.

But oh ma gosh to panic. The absolute cold terror and realisation that…yes. She can actually die. Sure she can poof and all but it’s never really clicked that she can actually die die
Especially for Robert. Growing up it’s like how we see our parents, these untouchable heros that will always be there until you realise they aren’t. As a kid he knew that when she went to her gem she wasn’t actually hurt, she’d come back. She always would.
But seeing her clutching her cracked gem as her body glitches and distorts? It’s like this cold icy drip down his spine that…he can actually loose her. Permanently.
Now the thing about gems is that it’s not common they contemplate their mortality. Gems poof, they reform and life goes on-before Homeworld had a peace treaty with Earth and went through their new era shatterings did happen. Afterwards? It was outlawed.
Gem!Reader had problems with Rob2rt before. He’d grip her gem tight and stare her in the eyes when she’d disagree with him about how he was rasing Robert…but he wasn’t strong enough to break her gem outright. He could rip it out with brute force yes and poof her but once she’s in her gem? She’s defenceless. But that’s another story entirely

The whole team is panicking as Blonde Blazer is trying to find every hero or nurse with healing powers. Prism is freaking the hell out, Waterboy bless him is trying to comfort Gem!Reader, Punch Up and Maleova are trying to keep her on her feet etc
It’s a proper shit show. But Gem!Reader? It’s hard to put into words. Before anyone even realises what’s happened she can feel something’s wrong, she brings her fingers to her gem and the pads of her fingers feel the cracks.
Just hairline fractures at first before she feels the deeper ones, a chip or two flecked out and then the pain starts. It’s deep and aching, like gravity has increased tenfold, and he legs buckle-her legs don’t work. She can’t feel them. Her eyes are blurry and her hands feel numb.
She doesn’t want to die
She has to see so much more
She has to see Robert grow old. She has to see him get grey hair. She has to live
She’s seen two robertsons die in that suit and she had the chance to see at least one live beyond its metal cage

She meets her once little boy’s brown eyes that slowly fill with confusion then terror as he sees those god awful cracks travel past her gem and spiderweb further along her body like fracturing porcelain.
