Get stranded on and Island this Sunday at Cookout NYC
Meat and beer lovers, party people of New York City, and those attracted to open flames: this Sunday, Cookout NYC is going down on Governor's Island. Co-hosted by trailblazers of the food community, Team Dickson's, Sixpoint Craft Ales, Mama O's Kimchi, Jimmy's No. 43, The Good Beer Seal, and radio hosts from Heritage Radio Network, this "all grill" event is one of the most exciting food events to roll through this summer! Once you get off of the ferry, you'll be greeted with the smells of flame kissed burgers, sizzling hot dogs, fresh lobster rolls, and ice-cold beer.
The meat portion of the festivities will be curated by the fabulous Dickson's Farmstand Meat's, which includes an amazing list of heavy-hitters: Tiberio Custom Meats, Heritage Foods, BrookVin, The Lobster Place, Fatty Cue and East Village Meat Market (the legendary/the last old school butcher shop in the East Village), to name a few.
Contests I'm looking forward to watching as I pop Tums and Alka-Seltzer like truffles:
*The first ever "Kimchipalooza," hosted by Mama O's Kimchi (if you haven't tried it, I ate a whole jar in one week and bought another directly after) and author Cathy Erway. Kimchipalooza will include all sorts of kimchi contests, from an eat off, cooking contests, to a kimchi taste off.
*When you've had your fill of purgatory, I mean, spicy pickled cabbage, author Arthur Schwartz and the folks at Fleisher's Meats will be judging a burger cook off sure to get your caveman taste buds watering.
Wash it all down with an incredible selection of NYC's best breweries, featuring limited edition beers (I can't tell you yet, because they're top secret).
If that pitch wasn't enough, here's my list of additional reasons you should unquestionably go:
*If you don't have air conditioning, you're probably turning into an overheated version of neurotic Woody Allen (God bless him), and need some island breeze/fresh air blowing through your hair. Take the ferry to Governor's Island: it's 10 minutes, and it's free.
*I'm going
*You might get a date. Or if you've got an upcoming date, your lack of creativity has been solved in two snaps. All it takes is clicking here and hitting the purchase button, twice.
*Whether or not your relatives made the trip on the Mayflower, the Nina, the Pinta, or the Santa Maria, times are looking pretty good since then, so you have no excuse for not hopping on a ship and taking a quick voyage to an island with running water and toilets that flush.
