the season of mayapple!!!
first photo was taken on the first day of april-- and the last photo is from the last week of may. they have emerged, flowered, fruited, and are now finishing 👋💛
#flowered 2-3 weeks after coming up (mid april)-- and fruited about 3-4 weeks after that (mid may). hooray!!!#mayapple#Podophyllum peltatum#one big leaf right out of the ground!!!#when the petiole (the leaf's stem) attaches on the underside of the leaf like that (vs attaching at the edge). the leaf is peltate in shape!#it comes from ancient greek “pelte” -- which was a small light kinda shield. so-- shieldy lookin leafs get called peltate 🟢#lotuses - water lilies - nasturtiums - chinese money plant - are other kinds of plant with this kind of leaf!#love his shape 🌤☔️💚#cool lobes and age spots...#plantposting
