I don't really use tumblr, but years ago I would always come back here for your posts. It was a different time then: hardly anybody knew about Yoko Taro, and anyone I knew who had heard about Nier dismissed it as "that weird Japanese game with the shitty fishing." Your posts were really special; it was one of the rare places on the internet where I could find such genuine excitement about my favorite game, and with excellent analyses to boot. It's great to rediscover you again, in a different time where freaking Nier is popular enough to get a remake.
Also I can't believe that after all these years, I only realized just now that the Japanese word for Shades (mamono) can also be read as "real person": https://en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/%E3%81%BE%E3%82%82%E3%81%AE#Japanese
I was just playing through Noir's speech to Weiss the other day and I was like "holy shit he's literally saying 'our purpose to to combine and set free the true humans to rule the world.' "
Thank you so much! (This really is an interesting time to have been a long-time fan, huh? The environment was very different a decade ago.)
And thank you even more for sharing that bit of Japanese punnery, that’s really cool.
