I haven't even heard that much by them; it's just that "what makes you beautiful" and "best song ever" get played a lot at work and I find myself bobbing and humming along whenever they come on and they're much less irritating than the boy bands of my youth

I'm confused about the Ben Kingsley Ghandi thing??? His father is Gujarati Indian. he's not a white man he's Indian! that post makes me very confused because I guess people decided he's white? I don't know if he darkened his skin more for the role of Ghandi or what there is no info about that that I can find, but he is definitely and Indian man playing and Indian man?

yeah i think the main concern is that he is white-passing & darkened his skin. my friend kunj who posted it is also gujarati & i think he was making a point about race vs ethnicity which are two v different things. like, he still used brown face, regardless of whether or not he is indian.

you've probably already seen me talking about my Complicated Feelings About the Janitor (or if you haven't they're pretty easy to find on my blog)

but yeah I just...the show is so wonderfully weird and JD is such a non-standard protagonist--like, just compare him to any other leading man in a sitcom. The biggest contrast I could think of was Home Improvement--an extreme, yes, but it illustrates how male sitcom protagonists aren't allowed to be...not masculine. Even on Community, where we've got Jeff--vain and pretty and style-obsessed--he's still very much a straight man. And JD is the opposite of all that. So why the hell not make him gay, is what I'm saying.

LIKE REALLY THOUGH we were also during same crazy fantasy episode like “how did this show even happen” like people were like yes ok we accept all of this crazy shit so accepting JD as gay would have been easy

I mean, we're talking about a show containing a character (played by a guy who's pretty much improvising nonstop) who was originally supposed to be a figment of the main character's imagination but at some point they made him real because why the hell not

We were on that episode omg idk I wish I knew name or number but it’s the one where JD is imagining them in this like fantasy world and he rides a donkey lmao and we just kind of were like “this show is really gay now”

as I've said before, at one point in the season 8 DVD commentaries, Zach Braff says that JD is "mostly gay by now"

I wish they'd actually had him fuckin' dudes it would have made perfect sense and nobody would have questioned it even the network censors would've been like "yeah okay this was adequately signposted"
