Brew Kettles Galore

If you’ve been reading this blog, you can tell I’ve been doing a ton of traveling for work lately – Nashville, San Jose, Miami, Dallas, etc.  An hour or so ago I arrived in McAllen, Texas, and right next to our hotel is a Tony Roma’s.  At least it was a place where we knew we could grab a steak and a beer.  I was hoping the beer list would be more diverse, but I decided to go for this Killian’s Irish Red since I haven’t crossed it off the list yet.

I have very fond memories of enjoying huge schooners of this beer on Bambino’s patio with my fraternity brothers when I was at the University of Missouri (which doesn’t appear to be in the same location from when I was in school there).  Man, do I miss those days!

Location: On tap at Tony Roma’s in McAllen, TX

Numbers: 4.9% ABV, 163 Calories

Appearance & Aroma: It was a very clear, reddish-amber color with a creamy, cream-colored head on it.  I couldn’t pick up much aroma at all, maybe just a light hint of bready maltiness.

Taste & Feel: Despite the creamy head, it had a crisp mouthfeel and a light body.  I was having a hard time picking up on the flavors, as they were fairly light.  There was a bit of caramel breadiness in the middle with a slight bitterness in the finish.  It finished very clean with very little aftertaste.

Food Pairing: This beer is light enough that it would go with almost anything, and is probably meant to be enjoyed with most pub fare – burgers, pizza, etc.  I remember this being a good way to wash down the heavy pasta dishes at Bambino’s.
