August Meeting

Thanks to everyone who attended this month's meeting and, again, my apologies for being a few minutes late. Thanks again to Garland for getting things started until I arrived. I should be on time for next month's meeting. I will be getting uniforms and equipment issued for OCCI that day, but I believe I can get that done in the morning.

Some great ideas came out of our discussion. I look forward to fleshing them out further and working out how we can implement them. In no particular order, the most popular ones were:

Backyard/garden sharing and canning parties: Those of us with available growing space to spare allowing others who don't to use a part of it and then collectively canning and sharing the produce,

Rent/mortgage assistance parties, cook-outs, picnics, and potlucks: If a member of the group is in need of a little help staying in their home we gather for a get-together and donate what we can to defray some of that expense for them. Bonus: Everybody gets a good meal in the process and a chance to get to know each other better,

Tool/small appliance/home repair equipment sharing: Rather than everyone having to individually buy or rent household items they may only need once or very infrequently we coordinate with each other to borrow what we need, saving all of us money,

Skill sharing workshops: Those of us with useful skills, such as home canning, vehicle maintenance, first aid, sewing, gardening, etc. teach them to other members of the group or make themselves available to use them to help each other.

Our next meeting will be at the Coos Bay Library's Cedar Room again, at 2-4 PM on Saturday, 23 September. We had plenty of room for everyone who attended so finding a bigger space can wait. I look forward to seeing you again and meeting others.

I will make printable flyers available for you to post on bulletin boards around the area if you know where to find them. Hopefully that will get us even more walk-in attendees than we've had already. Many hands make lighter work. Tell your friends!

A comrade reports that a hand-painted swastika was observed on the interior back wall of the garage at 2253/2255 Sherman Avenue in North Bend. As it is not known which address's occupant uses that garage observation of the site is advised but no further action is recommended at this time.
